Zephyr (video Game)
''Zephyr'' is a racing/ first-person shooter video game developed and published by New World Computing for DOS. Gameplay ''Zephyr'' is a shoot 'em up that takes place in an arena, and comes with network capabilities. Development and release ''Zephyr'' was developed by New World Computing. Although co-founders Jon Van Caneghem and Mark Caldwell received top billing in its credits, Caldwell admitted the two were not involved in its day-to-day production as they were more focused on the company's flagship ''Might and Magic'' series and its spin-off ''Heroes of Might and Magic'' at the time. He claimed they had long desired to do a "driving game" and ''Zephyr'' would contain the developer's first true 3D game engine. Caldwell went on to say that the game's title, boxart, and graphics all "rung out with people" to culminate in a project unlike anything they had done before. New World Computing
New World Computing, Inc. was an American video game developer and video game publisher, publisher founded in 1984 by Jon Van Caneghem, his wife, Michaela Van Caneghem, and Mark Caldwell. It was best known for its work on the ''Might and Magic'' role-playing video game series and its spin-offs, especially ''Heroes of Might and Magic''. The company was purchased by and became a division of The 3DO Company on July 10, 1996 from NTN Communications, after NTN purchased New World Computing for $10 million in stock. Amidst financial hardship, the 3DO Company laid off a large portion of the staff of New World Computing on April 15, 2002. While a smaller, core staff remained at New World Computing, the 2003 in video gaming, following year saw little improvement in parent 3DO's situation, and the company filed for Chapter 11, Title 11, United States Code, Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May of that year. ''Joystick'' (formerly ''Joystick Hebdo'') was a French computer magazine that published monthly issues on PC games. It was founded in 1988 by Marc Andersen, who later left in November 1995. Originally published in the form of a 32-page weekly magazine in 1988 and 1989, it saw monthly 148-page issues (and more) past 1990. It initially sold with one or more floppy disks and then later with several CD-ROMs, and finally, until April 2012, a DVD that included complete copies of video games. In 2012, ''Joystick'' ceased distribution. Despite 80,000 unique visitors per month to ''Joystick'''s website, it was closed in March 2002 due to the lack of profitability. It reopened in early 2008 as a summary of the magazine, including video game reviews and video game news; it would be updated irregularly until June 2012. Computec Media GmbH is a German computer media company headquartered in Fürth. It is a subsidiary of the Swiss Marquard Media Group. The company publishes multiple magazines and websites related to computers, video gaming and media. History Computec Media was founded in 1989 by Christian Geltenpoth who led the company until 2005. In 1999, the company tried to establish itself in the United States but had to cancel its operations after only ten months. From 1998 to 2013, it was traded in the General Standard of the Frankfurt stock exchange. In 2005, the Swiss Marquard Media AG became the company's major stock holder and on 1 October 2013 it bought the remaining stocks via a squeeze-out. From October 1992 to March 1998, the founders Oliver Menne and Thomas Borovskis were editors-in-chief. They were replaced by Thomas Borovskis from April 1998 to February 2000.
