Zembla (TV Series)
''Zembla'' is a Dutch television documentary programme produced by BNNVARA (previously VARA, and until 2010, also NPS). The documentaries are based on in-depth research. The program often deals with controversial topics. A documentary in 2001 about fraud in the Dutch construction sector led to parliamentary inquiries. In May 2006, the programme exposed the fact that politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali had lied in her claim for asylum, which led to her resignation from parliament. In May 2017, ''Zembla'' aired a two-part documentary investigating ties between Donald Trump and the Russian mafia, entitled ''The Dubious Friends of Donald Trump'' (''De omstreden vrienden van Trump''). An English-language version of the documentary with additional reference materials in English was also put online. There is now a third part to the series. BNNVARA
BNNVARA () is a broadcasting association and network within the Dutch public broadcasting system. History BNNVARA was founded on 1 January 2014 through a merger of the BNN (founded 1997) and VARA (founded 1925) associations. These continued to exist without broadcasting directly until 2018. In 2011 VARA and BNN announced that they would merge. On 6 November 2011, the members of VARA voted for the merger, after the member council of BNN had already done so a week earlier. The Omroepvereniging VARA (), the VARA Broadcasting Association, was a Dutch public broadcasting association primarily operating in the fields of television, radio, publishing and interactive media. It was a member of Netherlands Public Broadcasting. Nederlandse Programma Stichting
NPS (Nederlandse Programma Stichting) (English: Dutch Programme Foundation) was a Dutch government-funded radio and TV broadcasting foundation. In the Dutch public broadcasting system, broadcasters – in the Dutch context, listener and viewer associations – do not have their stations but are allotted time on the three public television and eight public radio networks broadly to the size of their respective memberships. Ayaan Hirsi Ali
Ayaan Hirsi Ali (; born 13 November 1969) is a Dutch and American writer, activist, conservative thinker and former politician. She is a critic of Islam and an advocate for the rights and self-determination of Muslim women, opposing forced marriage, honour killing, child marriage, and female genital mutilation. At the age of five, following local traditions in Somalia, Ali underwent female genital mutilation organized by her grandmother.
