Young And Beautiful (film)
''Young and Beautiful'' is a 1934 American romantic comedy film directed by Joseph Santley and starring William Haines and Judith Allen. The screenplay concerns a press agent who goes to great lengths to make his actress girlfriend a star, only to risk losing her in the process. Plot In Hollywood, press agent Robert Preston gets into trouble with his boss, Herman Cline, head of Superba Pictures, for neglecting his duties in order to publicize the 13 WAMPUS Baby Stars, June Dale in particular, at a banquet in their honor. However, he sweet talks Mrs. Cline and keeps his job. June shows up and faints, shaken by a failed abduction attempt. It turns out to be a publicity stunt concocted by Preston for his fiancée. Joseph Mansfield Santley (born Joseph Ishmael Mansfield, January 10, 1890 – August 8, 1971) was an American actor, singer, dancer, writer, director, and producer of musical theatre, musical theatre, theatrical plays motion pictures and television shows. He adopted the stage name of his stepfather, actor Eugene Santley. Life and career Joseph Santley was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. His mother, Laurene Santley, was an actress. As a boy, he and older brother Fred Santley, Fred began performing in live theatre appearing in summer stock and touring with their parents. Greta Meyer (7 August 1883 8 October 1965) was a German actress in motion pictures beginning in the silent film era. Biography Meyer belonged to a German family that was comparable to the Barrymore family in America. At age 3 she debuted on stage with her father's stock company. She went on to perform in operettas and plays in Amsterdam, Berlin, Dresden, Vienna, and other cities in Europe. Lu Ann Meredith (July 7, 1913November 12, 1998) was an American film actress. Picked as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars in 1934, her career did not flourish unlike a number of other awardees such as Jean Arthur and Ginger Rogers. In 1935, she had a romance with David Lean, who discussed marriage with her mother Cheerio Meredith. She made a few appearances in British films, but by 1937 her film career had declined. She appeared in a total of nine films between 1934 and 1939 before retiring from acting. Lucille Lund (June 3, 1913 – February 15, 2002) was an American actress. She is best known for her role in the film '' The Black Cat'' (1934). Background Lucille Lund was born in Buckley, Washington to Olaf Sylfestson Lund (1888–1940) and Laura (Skjelkvåle) Lund (1885–1972), who were immigrants from Oppland, Norway. She began her theatrical career as a child doing play extracts and readings. After leaving school she joined Henry Duffy Players, a stock company and toured up and down the Pacific Coast. Ann Hovey (August 29, 1911 – August 25, 2007) was an American chorus girl and minor film actress of the 1930s, primarily in B-movies. Life and career Born Ann Jacques Hovey in Mount Vernon, Indiana, Hovey was born into a wealthy and prominent family. A descendant of Alvin Peterson Hovey, a Union Army officer during the Civil War and the governor of Indiana from 1888 to 1891, Hovey's mother had been a part of the San Francisco high society scene until marrying Hovey's father, a prominent banker. At the age of seven, Hovey was involved in an automobile accident which caused temporary loss of sight in her left eye. Eventually the injury healed and her sight in the eye returned. Life and career Born in San Francisco, California as Lenore Gilmartin, she had a twin sister, Joan Gale (née Lorraine Gilmartin; born September 13, 1912 – June 11, 1998), along with another set of twin sisters, Jane Gale (née Helen Gilmartin; born July 6, 1911) and June Gale (née Doris Gilmartin; July 6, 1911 – November 13, 1996), although they were not quadruplets, as has occasionally been misreported. Betty Bryson
Betty Bryson (born Elizabeth Meiklejohn; October 5, 1911 – February 18, 1984) was an American film actress and dancer active during the 1930s and early 1940s. She appeared primarily in musical and comedy films and was selected as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars in 1934.
