"You'll Never Know", sometimes referred to as "You'll Never Know (Just How Much I Love You)" in later years, is a popular song with music written by Harry Warren and the lyrics by Mack Gordon. The song is based on a poem written by a young Oklahoma war bride named Dorothy Fern Norris. The song was introduced in the 1943 movie ''Hello, Frisco, Hello'' where it was sung by Alice Faye. The song won the 1943 Academy Award for Best Original Song, one of nine nominated songs that year. It was also performed by Faye in the 1944 film '' Four Jills in a Jeep''. The song is often credited as Faye's signature song. However, Faye never released a record of the ballad, and frequent later recordings of the song by other singers diminished her association with it. Chester Conn (''né'' Master Chester Cohn; April 14, 1894 – April 4, 1973) was an American composer of popular music and music publisher. Early life and career Chester was born in San Francisco, California to David Cohn and Minnie ''(née'' Newman; 1871–1946). At an early age, Chester was raised by his mother, who had become a widow sometime before 1900. In 1918, Cohn was working for Broadway Music Corp in New York. In 1922, Cohn was working for Leo Feist, Leo Feist, Inc., in its Chicago office. In 1937, Conn co-founded the New York music publishing of Bregman, Vocco & Conn, Inc. ("BVC"). The other name partners were Jack Bregman ''(né'' Joseph Bregman; 1901–1967) and Rocco Vocco (1887–1960). Chester Conn's only child, a son, Jack D. Conn (1926–1966), had been an executive at BVC. Mabel Louise Smith (May 1, 1924 – January 23, 1972), known professionally as Big Maybelle, was an American R&B singer. Her 1956 hit single "Candy" received the Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 1999. The Song Spinners were an American singing quartet of two men and two women which began as a folk song group on radio in the 30's and then enjoyed a burst of popularity during the 1942–44 musicians' strike. They accompanied Dick Haymes on "You'll Never Know" and several other hits. They had a #1 hit in 1943 with " Comin' In on a Wing and a Prayer". They also had a hit with " Johnny Zero" (originally known as "Johnny Got a Zero") that peaked on #7 on ''Billboard'' chart. The song was inspired by John D.
