Wyatt House (Desha, Arkansas)
The Wyatt House is a historic house at Gainer Ferry Road and Arkansas Highway 25 in Desha, Arkansas. It is a two-story I-house, three bays wide, with a side gable roof, end chimneys, and a single-story ell extending to the rear. The oldest portion of the house, its first floor, was built about 1870 as a dogtrot architecture, dogtrot. In about 1900, the breezeway of the dogtrot was enclosed, and the second story and ell were added. The property also includes a stone wellhouse dating to the enlargement. The house was built by Samuel Wyatt, a veteran of the American Civil War. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences is a K–12 magnet school in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was opened in 1986 in the former Wyatt Hall building which was used as a high school until 1983. The building was designed in Georgian Revival style by Reuben H. Hunt, a Chattanooga architect. The building was constructed in 1920–1921 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 as Wyatt Hall. It was named for Professor Henry D. Wyatt, founder of the public school system in Chattanooga, a teacher and the first Superintendent of Schools. Its liberal-arts curriculum is patterned on Mortimer Adler's Paideia ''Paideia'' ( /paɪˈdeɪə/; also spelled ''paedeia''; ) referred to the rearing and education of the ideal member of the ancient Greek polis or state. Leonidas I (; , ''Leōnídas''; born ; died 11 August 480 BC) was king of the Ancient Greek city-state of Sparta. He was the son of king Anaxandridas II and the 17th king of the Agiad dynasty, a Spartan royal house which claimed descent from the mythical demigod Heracles. Leonidas I ascended to the throne in , succeeding his half-brother king Cleomenes I. He ruled jointly along with king Leotychidas until his death in 480 BC, when he was succeeded by his son, Pleistarchus. At the Second Greco-Persian War, Leonidas led the allied Greek forces in a last stand at the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC), attempting to defend the pass from the invading Persian army, and was killed early during the third and last day of the battle. Leonidas entered myth as a hero and the leader of the 300 Spartans who died in battle at Thermopylae.
