World Rapid Chess Championship 2024
The World Rapid Chess Championship 2024 was the 2024 edition of the annual World Rapid Chess Championship held by FIDE to determine the world champions in chess played under Fast chess, rapid time controls. The tournament was held at 55 Wall Street, Cipriani Wall Street in New York City from 26 to 28 December 2024, using a Swiss-system tournament, Swiss system with 13 rounds for the open tournament and 11 rounds for the women's tournament. Players eligible to participate in the open tournament had to either be rated at least 2550 Elo rating system, Elo in a FIDE rating list during 2024, or be a reigning national champion. The time control was 15 minutes per player with a 10-second per-move increment. Since 2012, FIDE has held the World Rapid and World Blitz Chess Championship 2024, Blitz Championships at a joint tournament. Daniil Dubov
Daniil Dmitrievich Dubov (; born 18 April 1996) is a Russian chess grandmaster. He achieved his final norm for the Grandmaster title at the age of 14 years, 11 months, 14 days in 2011. Dubov won the 2018 World Rapid Chess Championship held in Saint Petersburg. Chess career 2006–2009 Dubov won two medals at the European Youth Chess Championships: a bronze in 2006, in the U-10 division, and a silver in 2008, in the U12. Koneru Humpy
Koneru Humpy (born 31 March 1987) is an Indian chess grandmaster. Humpy is a runner-up of the Women's World Chess Championship and the reigning two-time Women's World Rapid Chess Champion. In 2002, she became the youngest female player--and the first Indian female player--to achieve the title of Grandmaster, aged 15 years, 1 month, 27 days, a record only since surpassed by Hou Yifan. Humpy is a gold medalist at the Olympiad, Asian Games, and Asian Championship. Hans Moke Niemann (born June 20, 2003) is an American Grandmaster (chess), chess grandmaster and Twitch (service), Twitch streamer. He first entered the top 100 junior players list on March 1, 2019, and became a FIDE grandmaster on January 22, 2021. In July 2021, he won the World Open chess tournament in Philadelphia. He achieved a peak global ranking of No. 16 in September 2024. Wei Yi (; born 2 June 1999) is a Chinese chess grandmaster. Wei became a grandmaster at the age of 13 years, 8 months and 23 days, the 9th youngest in history. He is the youngest player ever to reach a rating of 2700, accomplishing this feat at age 15. Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa (born 10 August 2005) is an Indian chess grandmaster. A chess prodigy, Praggnanandhaa placed second in the 2023 Chess World Cup, and is the only Indian to win the Tata Steel Chess Tournament after Viswanathan Anand. Ray Robson (born October 25, 1994) is an American chess grandmaster. He achieved the grandmaster title in 2010, at the time the youngest American player to be awarded the title by FIDE. Early life Robson was born in Guam to American father Gary Robson, a professor at the college of education (applied linguistics) at St. Petersburg College, and Chinese mother Yee-chen, a kindergarten teacher at Country Day School.
