World Curling Tour
The World Curling Tour (WCT) is a group of curling bonspiels featuring the best male, female, and Doubles curling, mixed doubles curlers in the world. History The World Curling Tour was founded by former World Champion Ed Lukowich, with later assistance from John Kawaja. The World Curling Tour commenced in 1992, with men's events only at first. It replaced the "Canadian Curling Tour" held the previous season. The first season consisted of 48 events (with only one outside Canada), and was sponsored by Seagram's distillery. Teams earned points in every event with the top 30 qualifying for the season ending "1993 Seagram's VO Cup, V.O. Cup", today known as the Players' Championship. Its first president and CEO was Lukowich. Ed Lukowich
Edward R. "Ed" Lukowich (born March 1, 1946; nicknamed "Cool Hand Luke") is a former Canadian champion curling, curler. Lukowich is a two-time Tim Hortons Brier, Brier champion, having won the Brier Tankard for Alberta as skip of both the 1978 and 1986 Canadian championship teams. His team won the and placed third at Curling at the 1988 Winter Olympics, 1988 Olympics when curling was a demonstration sport. Career Curling Born on March 1, 1946, in Speers, Saskatchewan, Lukowich was the athlete development director from 2000 to 2009 of the United States Curling Association. The Elite 10 (branded as the Princess Auto Elite 10 for sponsorship reasons) was a curling bonspiel, held as part of the Grand Slam of Curling series. First held in the 2014–15 curling season, it was played between ten top-ranked teams, and utilized a match play system. The event was dropped from the Grand Slam calendar for the 2019–20 curling season. The Champions Cup (branded as the KIOTI Tractor Champions Cup for sponsorship reasons) is a Canadian curling tournament. Part of the Grand Slam of Curling (GSoC) and the World Curling Tour, it is the sixth GSoC event on the women's tour and the seventh on the men's tour. Canadian Open Of Curling
The Canadian Open, known as the Co-Op Canadian Open for sponsorship reasons, is an annual bonspiel, or curling tournament. It is one of the five Grand Slam (curling), Grand Slams and four "majors" on the men's and women's curling tours. A women's event was introduced in the 2014–15 curling season. In 2021, when it was supposed to be held outside of Canada for the first time, it was going to just be called the Open. However, the event was not held in 2021 and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
