Woodside (Croydon Ward)
Woodside is an electoral ward in the London Borough of Croydon. The ward has existed since the creation of the borough on 1 April 1965 and was first used in the 1964 elections. It returns councillors to Croydon London Borough Council. The ward covers the Woodside area. On 6 May 2021, 5 by-elections were held in Croydon following the resignation of 5 councillors across New Addington North, South Norwood, Kenley, Park Hill and Whitgift and Woodside. Two current councillors were elected in the 2022 London local elections. A by-election, caused by the resignation of Mike Bonello, was held on 2 May 2024. The London Borough of Croydon () is a London borough, borough in South London, part of Outer London. It covers an area of and had a population of 397,741 as of mid-2023, making it the most populous London borough. It is London's southernmost borough. At its centre is the town of Croydon, from which the borough takes its name, while other Urban area, urban centres include Thornton Heath, Coulsdon, Purley, London, Purley, South Norwood, Norbury, New Addington, and Selsdon. Val Shawcross
Valerie Shawcross is a British politician who served as Deputy Mayor of London for Transport from 2016 to 2018. A member of the Labour Co-operative parties, she was Member of the London Assembly for Lambeth and Southwark from 2000 to 2016. Shawcross was a Member of Croydon London Borough Council from 1994 to 2000, and served as Leader of the Council from 1997 to 2000. She unsuccessfully stood, as the Labour candidate, to become Mayor of Croydon in 2022. Ian David Bone (born 28 August 1947 in Mere, Wiltshire) is an English anarchist and publisher of anarchist newspapers and tabloids, such as ''Class War'' and ''The Bristolian''. In 1984, British tabloid newspaper ''The Sunday People'' described Bone as "The Most Dangerous Man in Britain". Activities Ian Bone is the son of a butler, and has said that this background greatly contributed to his later political outlook. 2024 London Mayoral Election
The 2024 London mayoral election was held on 2 May 2024 to elect the next mayor of London. It took place simultaneously with elections to the London Assembly, some local council by-elections in London and regular local elections elsewhere in England and Wales. The 2018 Croydon Council election took place on 3 May 2018 to elect members of Croydon Council in England. This was on the same day as other London local elections. This election was the first fought on new ward boundaries in Croydon. The total number of seats remains the same, however the number of wards has increased by four, from 24 to 28. Campaign The campaign officially began on 27 March 2018. The Conservative Party released their manifesto first, on 2 April, entitled "A Council that's on your side". The manifesto included policies such as planning committee reform, an immediate pause on the council's building company, Brick by Brick, and active Fly-Tip patrols. 1964 London Local Elections
The 1964 London local elections were held on 7 May 1964 alongside nationwide elections. They were the inaugural elections for the thirty-two London boroughs, which were created on 1 April 1965 by the London Government Act 1963. All seats were up for election, with polling stations open between 08:00 and 21:00. The result was a landslide for the Labour Party, who won twenty of the boroughs. The Conservatives won nine, and three were under no overall control.
