Welwyn Garden City
Welwyn Garden City ( ) is a town in Hertfordshire, England, north of London. It was the second Garden city movement, garden city in England (founded 1920) and one of the first New towns in the United Kingdom, new towns (designated 1948). It is unique in being both a garden city and a new town and exemplifies the physical, social and cultural planning ideals of the periods in which it was built. History Welwyn Garden City was founded by Sir Ebenezer Howard in 1920 following his previous experiment in Letchworth Garden City. Howard had called for the creation of planned towns that were to combine the benefits of the city and the countryside and to avoid the disadvantages of both. It was designed to be 'The Perfect Town'. Tara Davis-Woodhall
Tara Davis-Woodhall ( ; née Davis; born May 20, 1999) is an American track and field athlete. She won a gold medal in women's long jump at the 2024 Summer Olympics and also a silver medal at the 2023 World Championships. In 2017, she set the American junior women's record in the indoor long jump, and placed 6th in the women's long jump final at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Davis-Woodhall is also a hurdler. Early life and education Davis-Woodhall was born Tara Davis in Mesquite, Texas, to parents Ty and Rayshon Davis. Her father is a former track and field athlete at Texas A&M. Richie Woodhall
Richie Woodhall (born 17 April 1968) is a British former professional boxer who competed from 1990 to 2000. He held the WBC super-middleweight title from 1998 to 1999, as well as the Commonwealth middleweight title from 1992 to 1995, and the European middleweight title from 1995 to 1996. As an amateur, Woodhall won a gold medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games and bronze at the 1988 Summer Olympics, both in the light-middleweight division. Following his retirement from the sport, Woodhall has developed a broadcasting career with both the BBC and BT Sport as a sports pundit, on both television and radio. He currently co-commentates with Mike Costello on radio for some shows, while co-commentating with John Rawling on Setanta Sports at other times. Norrie Woodhall (née Bugler, 18 December 1905 – 25 October 2011) was an English actress who was the last surviving member of the Hardy Players, an amateur theatrical group based in Dorchester, Dorset, that formed in 1908 to perform dramatisations of the works of novelist Thomas Hardy. Biography Acting Augusta Noreen Bugler (“Gus” to her family, but “Norrie” more widely) was born in Dorchester in 1905, the youngest of four surviving children of Arthur Henry Bugler, a confectioner and baker, and Augusta Lydia Florence. Her parents ran the Central Temperance Hotel at 44 South Street in Dorchester; a plaque on the site of the hotel states that she was born there. She attended Casterbridge School, a small private school in Dorchester, and then Beaminster Grammar School. She sat the Oxford Senior Examination in 1922 and passed with distinctions in History and French. Hunter Woodhall (born February 17, 1999) is an American track and field athlete. He won a gold medal in Men's 400 m T62 at the 2024 Summer Paralympics, following a bronze medal in the same event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. He made his international debut in 2015 with a silver and bronze medal at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships and later won a bronze and silver medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. After graduating from Syracuse High School, he became the first double amputee to earn an NCAA Division I scholarship. George Woodhall
George "Spry" Woodhall (5 September 1863 – 29 September 1924) was an English footballer, who played most of his career with West Bromwich Albion, helping them to reach three consecutive FA Cup finals, including winning the cup in 1888. Woodhall was born in West Bromwich and, after playing for West Bromwich All Saints and Churchfield Foresters, joined West Bromwich Albion in May 1883. He was a member of the West Bromwich team that reached the 1886 and 1887 cup finals, going out 2–0 to Blackburn Rovers (in a replay) and Aston Villa respectively. In 1888, West Bromwich reached the final for the third consecutive year, when they met favourites, Preston North End at the Kennington Oval on 24 March 1888. Dale William Edward Woodhall (born 11 March 1961) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Although he had only just turned 23 when he started playing for Collingwood, Woodhall was already a three time Queensland Australian Football League leading goal-kicker. His 85 goals in his debut QAFL season in 1977 saw him finish second behind Owen Backwell but he topped the league's tables with 81 goals in 1979, 92 goals in 1982 and 113 goals in 1983. He joined Collingwood in 1982, having previously being signed by South Melbourne back in 1978 only to remain in Brisbane.
