Within The Golden Hour
''Within the Golden Hour'' is a one-act contemporary ballet choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, composed by Ezio Bosso and featured music by Antonio Vivaldi. The ballet premiered in 2008 at the War Memorial Opera House, danced by the San Francisco Ballet. Production ''Within the Golden Hour'' was created as part of San Francisco Ballet's New Work Festival, which commissioned 10 choreographers to create works for the company. It is performed by 14 dancers, including three main couples, originated by Sarah Van Patten, Pierre-François Vilanoba, Maria Kochetkova, Joan Boada, Katita Waldo and Damian Smith. Christopher Wheeldon
Christopher Peter Wheeldon OBE (born 22 March 1973) is an English international choreographer of contemporary ballet. Life and career Born in Yeovil, Somerset, to an engineer and a physical therapist, Wheeldon began training to be a ballet dancer at the age of 8. He attended the Royal Ballet School between the ages of 11 and 18. In 1991, Wheeldon joined the Royal Ballet, London; and in that same year, he won the gold medal at the Prix de Lausanne competition. Vadim Muntagirov
Vadim Muntagirov is a Russian ballet dancer. He is currently a principal dancer at The Royal Ballet in London and previously a lead principal dancer at the English National Ballet. Early life Muntagirov, was born in Chelyabinsk, Russia. His parents and elder sister are ballet dancers. At age nine, he entered Perm State Choreographic College, where his parents and sister trained, and trained there for six years. In 2006, after he won a scholarship at the Prix de Lausanne, despite not speaking English, he chose to relocate to London and trained at The Royal Ballet School. He planned to stay for a year, but Gailene Stock, then-director of the school, convinced him to continue his training there. He graduated in 2009. Matthew Ball (dancer)
Matthew Ball (born 14 December 1993) is an English ballet dancer and is currently a principal dancer with The Royal Ballet. Early life Ball was born in December 1993 in Liverpool. His mother is a GCSE dance teacher and his father works in arts education. He started dancing at the age of 6, entered the Royal Ballet Lower School at 11 and moved to the Upper School at 16. He graduated in 2013, but was unable to take part in the graduation performance because of knee surgery. Career Ball joined The Royal Ballet in the 2013/14 season, became a First Artist in 2015, Soloist in 2016 and First Soloist in 2017. Mayara Magri (dancer)
Mayara Magri is a Brazilian ballet dancer. She is a principal dancer at The Royal Ballet. Her promotion to principal dancer took effect in September 2021. Early life and training Magri was born and raised in Brazil. When she was eight, she received a scholarship to train at Petite Danse School in Rio de Janeiro. Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera House (ROH) is an opera house and major performing arts venue in Covent Garden, central London. The large building is often referred to as simply Covent Garden, after a previous use of the site. It is the home of The Royal Opera, The Royal Ballet, and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. Alexander Campbell (born 1986) is an Australian ballet dancer who is currently a principal dancer in the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden, London. Sarah Lamb (born 17 October 1980) is an American principal ballet dancer with The Royal Ballet, London. Early life Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Lamb is the second of three daughters born to Kathleen and John Lamb. Her father is English and moved to the United States in 1950 as a child, after the death of his father. She first started with tap, then modern dance at age four and at six, started proper ballet at the Boston Ballet School. Matthew Golding (born 1985) is a Canadian ballet dancer and was a principal dancer with the Royal Ballet and a principal with the Dutch National Ballet (Het Nationale Ballet) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Early life Golding was born in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, where he started dancing at age eight.
