Winslow House (River Forest, Illinois)
The Winslow House is a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house located at 515 Auvergne Place in River Forest, Illinois, River Forest, Illinois. Built in 1894–95, it was his first major commission as an independent architect. While the design owes a debt to the earlier James Charnley House, Wright always considered the Winslow House extremely important to his career. Looking back on it in 1936, he described it as "the first 'prairie house'." The original owner, William Winslow, was exemplary of Wright's Chicago clients, which the architect described as, "American men of business with unspoiled instincts and ideals." A manufacturer of decorative ironwork, Winslow later worked with Wright on a number of publishing projects, specifically for John Keats, Keats's ''The Eve of St. Agnes'' (1896), and William C. Winslow, Buckinghamshire
Winslow is a market town and civil parish in north Buckinghamshire, England, within the Buckinghamshire Council unitary authority area. It has a population of just over 4,400. It is located approximately south-east of Buckingham, and south-west of Bletchley (Milton Keynes). History Winslow was first recorded in a royal charter of 792–793 in which it was granted by Offa of Mercia to St Albans Abbey as ''Wineshauue'', which means 'Wine's Burial Mound'. Compare , 'low hill, mound'. The Domesday Book of 1086 records it as ''Weneslai''. A late Celtic copper torc has been found here, and also a silver drinking-cup of late Roman design. The 1841 census reveals the population that year was 1,333. Notable buildings Winslow Hall sits on the main road leading into the town from Aylesbury. Winslow Hall is a country house, now in the centre of the small town of Winslow, Buckinghamshire, England. Built in 1700, it was sited in the centre of the town, with a public front facing the highway and a garden front that still commanded in 2007, due to William Lowndes' gradual purchase of a block of adjacent houses and gardens from 1693 onwards. The architect of the mansion has been a matter of prolonged architectural debate; the present candidates are Sir Christopher Wren or a draughtsman, whether in the Board of Works, which Wren oversaw, or a talented provincial architect. Borden–Winslow House
The Borden–Winslow House is a historic house located at 3063 North Main Street in Fall River, Massachusetts. It was built c. 1740 in the Steep Brook area, then still part of Freetown, making it possibly the oldest extant house in Fall River. Of particular interest is the fine Georgian pediment doorway, which includes a six-light transom within its entablature. The survival of this doorway makes the house unusually important. It is one of six houses in the Steep Brook area considered to be the best representatives of the pre-industrial period of the city's history, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Wilson–Winslow House
The Wilson–Winslow House is a historic house in Coventry, Rhode Island. The main block of this -story wood-frame house was built in 1814 by Joseph Wilson, a farmer. It was occupied for most of the nineteenth century by his son, Israel Wilson, and it remained in the family's ownership until 1917. Architectural historian William Jordy noted that it was "very grand" for its rural location.William H. Jordy, ''Buildings of Rhode Island'', ed. Ronald J. Onorato and Wm.
