Wine Auction
A wine auction may also auction other alcoholic beverages than wine. There are two basic types of wine auctions: ''first hand wine auctions'', where wineries sell their own wines, and '' second hand wine auctions'', arranged by auction houses or other auctioneers to make it possible for any owners of wine to trade it. In most cases, the wines traded at wine auctions are collectible "fine wines" typically suitable for extended cellaring. Second-hand buyers may be looking for mature wines which are no longer available first-hand. In all types of auction the auctioneer charges commission to both buyers and sellers. Liv-ex (London International Vintners Exchange) is a global marketplace for wine trading. It has over 620 members from start-ups to established merchants. Liv-ex supplies them with data, trading, and logistics services. The platform publishes the actual prices at which wines are transacted and contains around £100m of firm buying and selling opportunities in over 16,000 wines. All are available to trade in real time. Liv-ex additionally conceived the Standard-In-Bond (SIB) contract to assure stock condition, delivery, faster payments, and provide transport and storage. German Wine Auctions
A number of German wine auctions are held each year, where the premier German wine producers auction off some of the best young wines, as well as some older wines. Most auctions are arranged by the regional associations of Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP). These auctions differ from wine auctions on the second-hand market held by auction houses, where collectible wines are sold by private or corporate owners, since it is "first hand" wines that are sold.
