Ford Windstar
The Ford Windstar (later the Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey) is a minivan that was produced and sold by Ford Motor Company, Ford. The replacement for the Ford Aerostar, the Windstar adopted the front-wheel drive configuration of the Chrysler minivans. From the 1995 to 2007 model years, three generations of the model line were sold, with the final generation renamed as the Ford Freestar. Unrelated to the Nissan-developed Mercury Villager, the Windstar was marketed without a Lincoln-Mercury counterpart. As part of the 2004 launch of the Ford Freestar, Mercury introduced its first Ford-produced minivan in a revival of the Mercury Monterey nameplate. Following a decline in sales across the minivan segment in the mid-2000s, the Freestar and Monterey were discontinued after the 2007 model year with no direct replacement. Windstar Cruises is a cruise line that operates a fleet of small luxury cruise ships. Its six yachts carry just 148 to 310 guests and cruise to 50 nations, calling at 150 ports throughout Europe, the South Pacific, the Caribbean, and Central America. In May 2014, Windstar added to its sailing yachts by adding the ''Star Pride'' power yacht, followed by ''Star Breeze'' and ''Star Legend'' in May 2015. The additional capacity opened up new itineraries such as voyages to Iceland, the Panama Canal, and Costa Rica and allowed Windstar Cruises to sail Tahiti year round. Windstar Foundation
The Windstar Foundation was an environmental education and humanitarian organization founded by John Denver and Thomas Crum in 1976 to conserve of land in Snowmass, Colorado, where it had its headquarters. Windstar educated all age groups about the environment on a world-wide level. The Foundation closed its doors in October 2012, voted to dissolve, and sold its property for $8.5 million in early 2013. All but 30 acres of the land is subject to a conservation easement which prohibits development. Windstar Records (originally Windsong Records) is a record label based in Snowmass, Colorado, founded by John Denver in 1976. The label primarily caters to folk music artists and bands, and has signed acts such as Denver, Starland Vocal Band (and its precursor, Fat City), Maxine Nightingale, Johnny's Dance Band and Nanette Mancini thereof, and Tom Crum. Founded as a subsidiary of RCA Records under the name Windsong Records, Windstar became an independent label in 1986, when RCA and Denver parted. Denver and RCA were not on particularly good terms towards the end of their partnership due to a change in management at RCA with executives not particularly interested in Denver's genre of music. The Windstar vertical-axis turbine is a lift-type device with straight blades attached at each end to a central rotating shaft. Windstar turbines were invented by Robert Nason Thomas and developed by Wind Harvest International, Inc., formerly the Wind Harvest Company, based in Point Reyes, California. Windstar turbines are operated as Linear Array Vortex Turbine Systems (LAVTS). Each rotor unit has a dual braking system of pneumatic disc brakes and blade pitch.
