Sir William Graham Greene (16 January 1857 – 10 September 1950) was an English civil servant who served as Permanent Secretary to the Admiralty from 1911 to 1917, during the time of the First World War. Greene, was one of the founders of Naval Intelligence in the First World War and still involved in Intelligence in the Second World War. William Oliver Greene (c.1916 – 28 Sepember 1979) was a British field hockey player who competed at the 1948 Summer Olympics. Biography In 1943, Greene joined the Royal Engineers. He was a warrant officer at the School of Military Engineering in Ripon. In 1946, Greene played club hockey for the School of Military Engineering in Ripon and represented Yorkshire at county level, making his debut in 1946 and would later represent the North, the Army and Combined Services. He made his England debut against Wales in 1948 and would win 11 caps. He was selected for the Olympic Trial and subsequently represented Great Britain in the field hockey tournament at the 1948 Olympic Games in London, winning a silver medal, although he had to settle for being an unused substitute. After transferring to Chatham in 1950, he would play club hockey for Gravesend. William Hallett Greene
William Hallett Greene or Green ( October 1864May 1942) was the first black member of the U.S. Signal Corps, the first black graduate of City College of New York, and first black meteorologist. Family and education Greene was born in New York City as the son of Susan Bulkley and Hallett Green, recorded in the census as a mulatto coachman who owned his residence on W. 31st Street. William graduated from City College (now part of the City University of New York) at the age of 19 with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1884. The ''New York Times'' reported on his class' graduation, noting that "W.H. Greene is the first colored boy who has ever graduated from the college, and he has made a good record. William Greene (May 2, 1874 – August 28, 1952) was an early aviation pioneer who was one of the first American pilots and airplane constructor. He developed a passion for flying at an early age and was an active member and treasurer of the Aeronautical Society of New York. In 1909 he designed, constructed and piloted a biplane at the Morris Park Raceway, Bronx, NY. Willie Louis Greene (born September 23, 1971) is an American former professional baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB). During his nine-year stint in the major leagues, Greene played for four teams: the Cincinnati Reds (1992–1998), the Baltimore Orioles (1998), Toronto Blue Jays (1999), and the Chicago Cubs (2000). William Friese-Greene (born William Edward Green, 7 September 1855 – 5 May 1921) was a prolific English inventor and professional photographer. He was known as a pioneer in the field of motion pictures, having devised a series of cameras between 1888–1891 and shot moving pictures with them in London. He went on to patent an early two-colour filming process in 1905. Wealth came with inventions in printing, including phototypesetting and a method of printing without ink, and from a chain of photographic studios. William Conyngham Greene (19 October 1827 – 9 August 1910) was an Anglican priest in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He was the son of Richard Wilson Greene, judge of the Court of Exchequer (Ireland) and Elizabeth Wilson, daughter of Thomas Wilson of Fulford, North Yorkshire. His nephew was the eminent diplomat Sir Conyngham Greene. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin, and ordained in 1850.
