''Wilderness of Mirrors'' is a studio album by Australian record producer Lawrence English. It was released on 21 July 2014 through his record label Room40. It received universal acclaim from critics. Background During the making of the album, Lawrence English drew inspiration from live performances by the bands Earth, Swans, and My Bloody Valentine. The songs were written with the "live experience of listening" in mind. It took him two years to finish the album. The album's title originates from T. S. Eliot's poem "Gerontion". A music video was released for the song "Forgiving Noir". Lawrence English
Lawrence English (born 1976) is an Australian composer, artist, and curator from Brisbane. His work is broadly concerned with the politics of perception, specifically he is interested in the nature of listening, and sounds' capability to occupy the body. He is the director of the imprint Room40, started in 2000. He and Jamie Stewart from Xiu Xiu have an ongoing collaboration named Hexa. Sound works English's music is recognised as exploring "environmental and musical sources and is highly regarded for its intelligent invocation of perception, memory and space". ''Cyclic Defrost'' is an Australian specialist electronic music magazine. It was founded and edited by Sebastian Chan, with current editors Bob Baker Fish, Chris Downton and Peter Hollo. It covers independent electronic music, avant-rock, experimental sound art and left field hip hop. History and profile The magazine started as a photocopied zine in 1998, as an offshoot of the weekly Sydney club night Frigid, run by Chan and co-editor/designer Dale Harrison. Chan and Harrison had met at university and edited the university newspaper together. Harrison, now the bass player for Sydney band The Herd, resigned after Issue 12 (October 2005) and was replaced by designer Bim Ricketson. Matthew Levinson joined Chan as editor. Edward Jean Steichen (; March 27, 1879 – March 25, 1973) was a Luxembourgish American photographer, painter and curator and a pioneer of fashion photography. Vanessa Tomlinson
Vanessa Tomlinson (born 1971) is an Australian percussionist, composer, artistic director and educator. She is Director of Creative Arts Research Institute and Head of Percussion at Griffith University and has produced 150 publications. She is the co-founder and co-artistic director of Clocked Out, along with Erik Griswold. Career In 1993 Tomlinson was awarded a recording contract with Etcetera Records, and won two awards for her percussion. Room40
Room40 is an Australian independent record label founded by Lawrence English. The label has released work by Australian and international musicians such as Erik Griswold, Chihei Hatakeyama, Mike Cooper, Ben Frost, and Beatriz Ferreyra. They have had over 300 releases since 2000. Room40's first releases didn't arrive until 2002, with the albums ''Powerhouse Sessions'' and ''A Picturesque View, Ignored.'' Both were recorded live at Brisbane Powerhouse in 2002 and released December of that year. Initially releasing music on CD, Room40 has also issued music on vinyl, lathe records, digital audio files, DVD, and cassette tapes.
