''Wild Life'' is a 2023 American documentary film directed and produced by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin that follows conservationist Kris Tompkins and her husband, entrepreneur Douglas Tompkins. The film was produced by Little Monster Films for National Geographic Documentary Films and premiered at the 2023 South by Southwest Film Festival. It was released theatrically by Picturehouse in select U.S. cities on April 14, 2023, and had its broadcast debut on the National Geographic Channel on May 25, 2023, with streaming beginning on Disney+ the following day. Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi
Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi (; born ) is an American documentary filmmaker. She was the director, along with her husband, Jimmy Chin, for the film ''Free Solo'', which won the 2019 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The film profiled Alex Honnold and his free solo climb of El Capitan in June 2017. Early life and education Vasarhelyi grew up in New York City, and is the daughter of Marina Vasarhelyi, a college administrator, and Miklós Vásárhelyi, a college professor. Her father is from Hungary and her mother is from Hong Kong. Vasarhelyi is a graduate of The Brearley School. She holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Princeton University.
