''Wide World of Sports'' was a Canadian sports magazine series, which aired on CTV from 1964 to 1991.Ken McKee, "Out with old Wide World, in with new CTV Presents". A franchised adaptation of the American '' Wide World of Sports'', the program initially aired a mixture of content from the American series and original Canadian content produced by CTV and its affiliates, with the balance shifting much more strongly toward original Canadian content in later years. Johnny Esaw
Johnny Esaw, CM (June 11, 1925 – April 6, 2013) was a Canadian of Assyrian descent, a sports broadcaster and television network executive. He was a pioneer of sports broadcasting in Canada, best known for his involvement with figure skating, football, and international hockey. Early broadcasting career Born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Esaw was unsuccessfully selling insurance in 1947 when Emile Francis hired him to cover semi-professional baseball games on radio station CJNB in North Battleford. In 1949, he moved to a bigger market in Regina, Saskatchewan at CKRM, where he worked until 1956. He provided play-by-play coverage of the 1951 Grey Cup game from Varsity Stadium in Toronto—the beginning of what became a long affiliation with the Canadian Football League. Tracy Wilson, (born September 25, 1961) is a Canadian former competitive ice dancer. With partner Rob McCall, she won the Canadian national championship seven times (1982–1988), is a three-time World bronze medallist, and the 1988 Olympic bronze medallist. Personal life Wilson was born on September 25, 1961, in Lachine, Quebec, Canada. She grew up in Port Moody, British Columbia. As child she did swimming and diving, competing at provincials three times. She first swam with the Coquitlam Sharks in 1967 before moving, in 1970, to Port Moody Aquarians. Rod Black (born September 28, 1962) is a Canadian sports announcer best known for his work with CTV Sports and TSN from 1990 to 2021. He is now a host and brand ambassador for NorthStar Bets, a brand of NorthStar Gaming. Education Black was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Pat Marsden
Patrick Francis Marsden (November 8, 1936 – April 27, 2006) was a Canadian sportscaster and voice of the Canadian Football League play-by-play coverage in the 1970s and 1980s. He also worked as host for the historic 1972 Canada-Soviet Union hockey Summit Series sports telecasts. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1989. Marsden was born in Ottawa and attended St. Patrick's High School and the University of Ottawa, where he started his sportscasting career at local station CKOY.
