''Wicked'' is an American media franchise started by the two-part Musical film, musical Fantasy film, fantasy film series directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, based on the Wicked (musical), 2003 stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, which was loosely based on Gregory Maguire's Wicked (Maguire novel), 1995 novel, which itself is a reimagining of L. Frank Baum's ''The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'' and its The Wizard of Oz, 1939 film from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, MGM (now owned by Warner Bros. Stephen Lawrence Schwartz (born March 6, 1948) is an American musical theatre composer and lyricist. Elphaba
Elphaba Thropp () is the protagonist of Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel '' Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West'', the novel's musical theatre adaptation, and the musical's two-part film adaptation, '' Wicked'' (2024) and '' Wicked: For Good'' (2025). She is a reimagining of the Wicked Witch of the West from L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel '' The Wonderful Wizard of Oz''. Dorothy Gale is a fictional character created by the American author L. Frank Baum as the protagonist in many of his ''Oz'' novels. "For Good" is a musical number from the hit musical ''Wicked''. It is sung as a duet between Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda (the Good Witch of the North) as a farewell.
