Where The Girls Are (TV Program)
''Where the Girls Are'' is a music and comedy special that aired on NBC in 1968. Noel Harrison, fresh from his role in the NBC series '' Girl From U.N.C.L.E.'', hosted the hour-long special. Comic skits were performed by Professor Irwin Corey and Don Adams, who was starring in the NBC series Get Smart. Musical numbers were performed by The Association, Barbara McNair, Cher and The Byrds. The "Close-Up" for the program in the April 20–26, 1968 ''TV Guide'' also notes: "The goings-on include antic camerawork and a bevy of mini-clad beauties." Celanese Arnel was a major sponsor. The special was broadcast on Tuesday, April 23, 1968. The multiple-camera setup, multiple-camera mode of production, multi-camera or simply multicam is a method of filmmaking and video production. Several cameras—either film or professional video cameras—are employed on the set and simultaneously record or broadcast a scene. It is often contrasted with a single-camera setup, which uses one camera. Description Generally, the two outer cameras shoot close-up shots or "crosses" of the two most active characters on the set at any given time, while the central camera or cameras shoot a wider master shot to capture the overall action and establish the geography of the room. "Sunny" is a soul jazz standard written by Bobby Hebb in 1963. It is one of the most performed and recorded popular songs, with hundreds of versions released. BMI rates "Sunny" No. 25 in its "Top 100 songs of the century". Background and composition Hebb's parents, William and Ovalla Hebb, were both blind musicians. Hebb and his older brother Harold performed as a song-and-dance duo in Nashville, beginning when Bobby was three and Harold was nine. Hebb performed on a TV show hosted by country music record producer Owen Bradley. Hebb wrote the song after his older brother, Harold, was stabbed to death outside a Nashville nightclub. Hebb was devastated by the event and many critics say it inspired the lyrics and tune. "Windy" is a pop music song written by Ruthann Friedman and recorded by the Association. Released in 1967, the song reached No. 1 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in July of that year, which makes "Windy" the Association's second U.S. No. 1 hit following " Cherish" in 1966. ''Billboard'' ranked the record as the No. 4 song for 1967. "Gentle on My Mind" is a song that was written and originally recorded by John Hartford, and released on his second studio album, ''Earthwords & Music'' (1967). Hartford composed the song after watching '' Doctor Zhivago'' in 1966, as he was inspired by the film and his own personal experiences. The lyrics describe the reminiscences of lost love of a man as he travels through the country. The following year, Hartford released the song as a single on RCA Records. It then caught the attention of Glen Campbell, who recorded his cover version with a group of session musicians known as the Wrecking Crew. Noel John Christopher Harrison (29 January 1934 – 19 October 2013) was an English actor and singer who had a hit singing " The Windmills of Your Mind" in 1968, and was a member of the British Olympic skiing team in the 1950s. He was the son of the actor Rex Harrison. Early life Harrison was born on 29 January 1934 in Kensington, London. His mother, Ethel Margery Noel Collette-Thomas, was the first of Rex Harrison's six wives; they divorced in 1942.
