''18 Candles: The Early Years'' is the first compilation album by Silverstein, released in 2006. It compiles their first two previously released, then-out-of-print EPs ''Summer's Stellar Gaze'' and ''When the Shadows Beam'', along with some newly recorded acoustic and live material and a remix of the song "Smile in Your Sleep". By July 2006, the album had sold over 20,000 copies. Silverstein (band)
Silverstein () is a Canadian post-hardcore band from Burlington, Ontario, formed in 2000. Their band name is a reference to the famous children's author Shel Silverstein, who the band had admired and whose work they had read as children. They have released a total of eleven studio albums, seven EPs, a compilation album and a live DVD/CD. The band achieved moderate success with their second studio album, ''Discovering the Waterfront'', which was nominated for a Juno Award and reached No. 34 on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200 charts, with the following two albums charting at similar positions. Post-hardcore
Post-hardcore is a punk rock music genre that maintains the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk but emphasizes a greater degree of creative expression. Like the term " post-punk", the term "post-hardcore" has been applied to a broad constellation of groups. Initially taking inspiration from post-punk and noise rock, post-hardcore began in the 1980s with bands like Hüsker Dü and Minutemen.
