When The Dust Settles
''When the Dust Settles'' is the third full-length album from Australian hip hop group, Downsyde and was released in December 2004 through Obese Records. It was produced by band members Optamus, Dazastah, Cheeky and Armee. All tracks were recorded and mixed at various members' homes except for flutes on "Bring It All Black" and "Arabian Knights", which were recorded at Studio Couch in Fremantle, Western Australia. At the J Award of 2005, the album was nominated for Australian Album of the Year. Several tracks from the album received airplay from radio stations around Australia, including 4ZZZ (Brisbane), FBi (Sydney), 3RRR (Melbourne) and RTRFM (Perth). Downsyde is an Australian hip hop group from Perth, Western Australia. The group is composed of three members, Optamus, Dazastah and Dyna-Mikes. The group has performed alongside groups including Jurassic 5, Cypress Hill, Grandmaster Flash, The Black Eyed Peas, and The Roots. They also performed with Australian acts like Hilltop Hoods, Resin Dogs, and Koolism. Craigie, Western Australia
Craigie is a northern suburb of Perth. Craigie was chosen as a suburb name in 1970 and honours an early councillor of the City of Wanneroo who did work in developing the City. Craigie is one of the four "Whitfords" suburbs that resulted from the State Government rezoning a large area of coastal land for development in 1969. The suburb once had a senior high school, Craigie Senior High School, which was opened in 1976 only to be closed again in 2003 following a decline in student enrolments. ''Koolism'' is an Australian hip hop duo originating from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. The members are lyricist Hau Latukefu (born Langomi-e-Hau Latukefu, 1976, Queanbeyan, Australia) and producer/DJ/musician Danielsan Ichiban (born Daniel Elleson, 1975, Auckland, New Zealand). History ''Koolism'' started out in 1992 when Elleson (aka DJ Rampage) joined a group by the name Tribe Ledda L (L for Latukefu), which comprised Hau and his cousins Hounga and Sione. By 1995, only DJ Danielsan Ichiban, Danielsan and Hau remained and they changed the name to Koolism, from a song with that name which they recorded the previous year. Paul Reid, formerly Paul Gary James Ridge, (born 4 September 1982), better known by the stage name Drapht, is an Australian hip hop artist from Perth. Drapht is a member of the Syllabolix (SBX) crew, a collective that includes fellow Perth-based hip hop artists such as Downsyde. Biography 1982–2002: Early life Drapht grew up in North Perth, Western Australia, a suburb of Perth. His father, Gary Ridge, a jazz drummer introduced Drapht to music from a very young age—he first experienced hip hop at the age of eight. The Western Australian Music Industry Awards (commonly known as WAMis) are annual awards presented to the local contemporary music industry, put on by the Western Australian Music Industry Association Inc (WAM). History WAM was originally formed as the Western Australian Rock Music Industry Association Inc. (WARMIA) in 1985, with its main aim to develop and run annual awards recognising achievements within the music industry in Western Australia. "Gifted Life" is the first single from Australian hip hop group Downsyde's second album Land of the Giants. It was released on 23 September 2002 on the independent label, Hydrofunk (established by Resin Dogs) and distributed nationally by Virgin. The song basically revolves around the concept that some people have a blessed (or gifted) life, while others are not so fortunate. Three other songs are also included on the retail single: "Reap What We Sow", "Dee Dah Dah" (an interlude type track), and "Raiders of the Lost Art", all from the group's debut album '' Epinonimous'' and all produced or co-produced by Dazastah. "Gifted Life" was nominated as 'Best Single' at the 2003 Australian Dance Music Awards, which was eventually won by Infusion's "Dead Souls".
