"What's on Tonight" is the third and final single released from Montell Jordan's second album, '' More...''. The song was produced and written by both Jordan and Jodeci's DeVante Swing and became the third consecutive top 40 single from the album. It peaked at 21 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and was certified gold on May 22, 1997 for sales of over 500,000 copies. Montell Jordan
Montell Du'Sean Barnett Jordan (born December 3, 1968) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. Best known for his 1995 single "This Is How We Do It", Jordan was the primary male solo artist on Def Jam's Def Soul imprint until leaving the label in 2003. In 2010, Jordan left the music business to become the worship leader at Victory World Church in Norcross, Georgia. Early life and education Montell Jordan was born in South Central Los Angeles to Elijah and Deloris Jordan. Born into a Baptist family, Jordan attended his local church frequently as a child, where his mother and father worked as deacons. Growing up, Jordan played piano for his church as a musician. In the mid-1980s, Montell attended Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, California as well as Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, where he earned a bachelor's degree in communications. Though the album performed not as well on the US ''Billboard'' charts as his previous album, only making it to #47 on the ''Billboard'' 200, ''More…'' nevertheless was certified gold by the RIAA on May 21, 1997. Donald Earle DeGrate Jr. (born September 29, 1969), better known by his stage name DeVanté Swing, is an American record producer, singer, rapper and songwriter. He is the older brother of fellow Jodeci member Dalvin DeGrate. Career In his early career, Swing served as a mix engineer, while simultaneously producing for other acts. He mix-engineered Hi-Five’s "I Just Can't Handle It" as well as producing several remixes for the track. Swing rose to prominence in the 1990s as the founding member of the R&B group Jodeci, one of the most notable R&B acts of all time. Swing served as the main songwriter, producer and leader of the group. Jodeci also featured his younger brother Dalvin DeGrate. Jodeci ( ) is an American R&B quartet consisting of members DeVanté Swing, Mr. Dalvin, K-Ci, and JoJo. Formed in 1989 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Jodeci's members began their musical careers as two duos of brothers and, after years of limited success, joined forces.
