Western Mustangs Football
The Western Mustangs football team (also known as the Western Ontario Mustangs) represents the University of Western Ontario in U Sports football, Canadian university football. The Western Mustangs, Mustangs compete as a member of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA), under the U Sports association. With their first full season in 1929, the Western Mustangs are one of the most decorated football teams in Canadian university history. The team has had the most Vanier Cup national championship appearances, having made it to the title game 15 times (most recently in 56th Vanier Cup, 2021). The Mustangs have won eight Vanier Cups, second only to the Laval Rouge et Or football, Laval Rouge et Or. A defensive coordinator (DC) is a coach responsible for a gridiron football team's defense. Generally, the defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator and special teams coordinator represent the second level of a team's coaching structure, with the head coach being the first level. Vanier Cup
The Vanier Cup () is the trophy awarded annually to the champion Canadian football team in U Sports, the governing body for university sports in Canada. The U Sports football champion is determined in a one-game playoff (the Vanier Cup game), played by the winners of the Uteck Bowl and the Mitchell Bowl. In turn, the participating teams are determined by the winners of four bowl games: the Loney Bowl ( AUS), Hardy Cup (Canada West), Dunsmore Cup ( RSEQ), and Yates Cup ( OUA). The Vanier Cup game is played at a neutral site that changes every year; the hosting university is determined months or years in advance. Queen's Gaels Football
The Queen's Gaels football team represents Queen's University in the sport of Canadian football. The Gaels compete at the U Sports football level, within the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) conference. Queen's began competing in intercollegiate football in 1882. The Gaels play in the Richardson Memorial Stadium in Kingston, which has a capacity of 8,000. Since its inception, the team has won 23 Yates Cup championships and four Vanier Cup championships, the most recent being in 2009. Unique to only two Canadian universities (the other being University of Toronto Varsity Blues), Queen's has also won three Grey Cup championships (1922, 1923, 1924). The San Diego Chargers were a professional American football team in the National Football League (NFL). The Chargers played in San Diego, California from 1961 until 2016, before relocating back to the Greater Los Angeles area, where the franchise played its inaugural 1960 season. Vaughn Martin
Vaughn Martin (born April 18, 1986) is a Jamaican-born Canadian former professional football defensive tackle. He was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL draft, the first Canadian university football player drafted by an NFL team as an underclassman. He played university football at the University of Western Ontario. Early life Martin was born in Jamaica and raised in Toronto and London, Ontario. He attended London South Collegiate Institute, playing football for head coach Chris Marcus, and later Mike Stenning. Tyrone Robert Williams (born March 26, 1970) is a Canadian former professional football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys. He also was a member of the Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He is the first player to win a Vanier Cup, a Super Bowl and a Grey Cup. The Baltimore Colts were a professional American football team that played in Baltimore from 1953 to 1983, when owner Robert Irsay moved the franchise to Indianapolis. Western Alumni Stadium
Western Alumni Stadium (formerly TD Stadium) is an 8,000-seat Canadian football stadium located on the campus of the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. It is home to the Western Mustangs football and soccer teams and is one of the largest stadiums in the OUA provincial conference. It was built in 2000 at a cost of approximately $10.65 million by Norlon Builders London Ltd and designed by Stantec Consulting Ltd. The stadium was built as a replacement for the former JW Little Stadium, which held its last game in 1999 before demolition. JW Little Stadium had been on Western's campus since 1929.
