West Virginia's 9th Senate District
West Virginia's 9th Senate district is one of 17 districts in the West Virginia Senate. It is currently represented by Republicans Rollan Roberts and David Stover. All districts in the West Virginia Senate elect two members to staggered four-year terms. Geography District 9 is based in Raleigh and Wyoming Counties in Southern West Virginia, also covering a small portion of northern McDowell County. Communities in the district include Beckley, Mabscott, Sophia, Beaver, Bradley, Coal City, Crab Orchard, Daniels, MacArthur, Prosperity, Shady Spring, Stanaford, Mullens, and Oceana. West or Occident is one of the four cardinal directions or points of the compass. It is the opposite direction from east and is the direction in which the Sun sets on the Earth. Bradley is a census-designated place (CDP) in Raleigh County, West Virginia, United States, named in honor of General Omar Bradley, a field commander in North Africa and Europe during World War II and a General of the Army. The population was 1,928 at the 2020 census. Geography Bradley is located at (37.876409, -81.203450). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.6 square miles (14.6 km2), all land. The 2020 West Virginia Senate elections were held on November 3, 2020, as part of the biennial United States elections. Seventeen of the 34 West Virginia state senators stood for election. John R
John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Later rock music disc jockeys, such as Alan Freed and Wolfman Jack, mimicked Richbourg's practice of using speech that simulated African-American street language of the mid-twentieth century. The 2022 West Virginia Senate elections were held on November 8, 2022, and elected 17 of the chamber's 34 members. This coincided with elections in the House of Delegates, and the election of West Virginia's two representatives. West Virginia's 3rd Congressional District
West Virginia's 3rd congressional district is a U.S. congressional district in southern West Virginia. The district covers the state's second-largest city, Huntington; includes Bluefield, Princeton, and Beckley; and has a long history of coal mining (especially in the southwestern counties), forestry, and farming. The district is currently represented by Republican Carol Miller. However, because West Virginia lost a congressional seat in the 2020 census, it will be eliminated in 2023. On October 22, 2021, Governor Jim Justice signed the new congressional map plans into law. Under the plan, all of the current 3rd will be part of the new 1st. Oceana is a town in Wyoming County, West Virginia. The population was 1,462 at the time of the 2020 census. Oceana is the oldest city in Wyoming County and was the county seat until 1907.
