Wélton Araújo Melo (born 17 April 1975 in Cambuci, Rio de Janeiro) is a former Brazilian footballer who played professionally as either a forward or midfielder in South America, Europe and the United States, including five season in Major League Soccer. Thomas Welton Stanford (1832–1918), also known as Welton Stanford, was an American-born Australian businessman, spiritualist and philanthropist, most notably toward Stanford University, which was founded by his older brother Leland Stanford. Although living most of his adult life in Australia, he kept his American citizenship and served intermittently as honorary American vice consul-general in Melbourne. Kate Emily Welton Hogg (1869–1951) was an Australian physician and graduate of the Edinburgh College of Medicine for Women. She studied alongside prominent early female physicians Mary Booth, Agnes Bennett, and Eleanor Sproull. Early life and education Born in London in 1869, Hogg was educated in Croydon, Sydney. She received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney in 1894 and then entered the Sydney Medical School in 1895, but grew frustrated with the discouraging atmosphere fostered by the Dean, Professor Anderson Stuart. Forgoing Sydney, Hogg went on to enroll at the Edinburgh College of Medicine for Women, where she graduated MB ChB in 1900 and MD in 1909. Lorenzo Welton Elder
Lorenzo Welton Elder (April 15, 1820 - May 11, 1892) was an American physician and politician who served as the sixth mayor of Hoboken, New Jersey, from 1863 to 1864 during the American Civil War. It was through his efforts that the Hudson County Board of Health was established. He was president of the Hudson County Pathology Society and was deputy adjutant-general on the staff of Governor Rodman McCamley Price. He was the local medical examiner of the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company of Newark, New Jersey, and of the New York Life Insurance Company. Welton Ivan Taylor (November 12, 1919 – November 1, 2012) was an American microbiologist, inventor and civil rights activist. He is known for his work on food-borne pathogens, notably for developing tests for ''Salmonella'' and for inventing the XLD (Xylose Lysine Deoxycholate) agar, which can be used to isolate ''Salmonella'' and ''Shigella'' bacteria. After obtaining his PhD at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and research relevant to infections of soldiers' wounds at the university's College of Medicine, Taylor joined the food processing company Swift & Company, developing for them an accurate test for the contamination of food with salmonella. This set the direction for his subsequent research, undertaken mostly at Microbiologist-in-Chief at Chicago's Children's Memorial Hospital, on different ways of detecting specific pathogens accurately and quickly, in a clinical setting.
