Reception In a review for '' All About Jazz'', John Sharpe called the recording "a surprisingly accessible album which fizzes with joie de vivre," and commented: "they conjure outbreaks of irrepressible swing from even the seemingly most abstract surroundings... Welcome Back (John Sebastian Album)
''Welcome Back'' is an album by American singer/songwriter John Sebastian, released in 1976 (see 1976 in music). It reached number 79 on The Billboard 200 chart. Two singles were released from the album with the title song " Welcome Back" reaching number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts. It also reached number 93 on the Country Singles chart. The second single, "Hideaway" peaked at number 95 on the Billboard Hot 100. History Following the commercial failure of his 1974 album ''Tarzana Kid'', Sebastian owed one more record on his contract with Reprise Records. When his theme song for the television series ''Welcome Back, Kotter'' became a hit, Reprise wanted an LP to capitalize on the song's success. With his contract fulfilled, Reprise dropped him from the label. It would be seventeen years before Sebastian's next studio album was released. Reception In his retrospective Allmusic review, critic William Ruhlmann called ''Welcome Back'' "…an uneve ... This was Mase's first album to not have a Parental Advisory warning, and his first official studio release since 1999's '' Double Up''. " Welcome Back" samples the ''Welcome Back, Kotter'' theme song. Critical reception ''Welcome Back'' received mixed reviews from music critics. AllMusic's David Jeffries said, "''Welcome Back'' runs out of steam toward the end, and spreading out some of the "don't sleep on this" material from the beginning would've worked wonders. It makes this the least necessary Mase album, but half the tracks point to a future that is brighter than ever." Jon Caramanica, writing for ''Rolling Stone'', found Mase's delivery lacking in quality after years away from the rap game and focusing on religion. K ...
