We And Our Mountains
''We and Our Mountains'' (; ) is a 1969 Armenian comedy-drama film directed by Henrik Malyan and starring Azat Sherents, Frunzik Mkrtchyan, Sos Sargsyan and Khoren Abrahamyan. The screenplay was adapted by Hrant Matevosyan on the basis of his own novella of the same title. Plot The film revolves around a comical story of four unlucky shepherds living high in the mountains of Armenia. One day, one of the shepherds, Ishkhan, finds some apparently ownerless sheep, which the shepherds slaughter and eat. While they are eating, Revaz, their neighbor, comes and joins them. Revaz asks about his lost sheep, and it is revealed that the slaughtered sheep belonged to him. A fight nearly breaks out between Revaz and two hot-heated shepherds, Pavle and Zaven, but Ishkhan defuses the situation, and Revaz is sent away with money and is promised goods in the fall to compensate for the sheep. Henrik Malyan
Henrik Sureni Malyan (, also transliterated Henrik Malian; September 30, 1925 – March 14, 1988) was an Armenian film director and writer. He was born in Telavi, Georgia. Malyan's uncle was the actor David Malyan. He studied chess at an early age, along with Tigran Petrosian. From 1942 to 1945 he worked as a draftsman and designer at a factory in Tbilisi. In 1951 he graduated from the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography. Between 1951 and 1954, he was a director at various theatres in Armenia. In 1953, he graduated from the Moscow Theatre Institute. From 1954 onward he worked with the film studio Armenfilm. His 1977 film '' Nahapet'' (''Life Triumphs'') is considered to be one of the most important Armenian films to deal with the Armenian genocide. It was exhibited at the 1978 Cannes Film Festival. Armenfilm (; ), also known as Hayfilm (), is an Armenian film studio company located in Yerevan. The studio company was founded on 16 April 1923 as a production unit of the Soviet State Cinema Organization, with Daniel Dznuni as the first director. Armenfilm was sold by the state to private investors in 2005 with a long list of conditions to revitalize the studio's equipment and produce new content. It was renamed as CS Film Studios but failed to produce the required new feature films. Galya Novents (; 1 July 1937 – 22 July 2012) was a Soviet and Armenian stage and film actress, one of the most prominent Armenian actresses of the 20th century. Biography Galya Novents was born on 1 July 1937 in Yerevan. In 1958, she graduated from Yerevan Institute of Fine Arts and Theatre. The 42nd Venice International Film Festival gave her a special mention for Best Actress for role in The Tango of Our Childhood, which was not awarded. In 2007, Novents was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Republic of Armenia. She died on 22 July 2012 in Los Angeles at the age of seventy-five.
