We Got The Beat
"We Got the Beat" is a song by the American all-female rock band the Go-Go's, written by the group's lead guitarist and keyboardist Charlotte Caffey. The band first recorded the song in early 1980 as a single on UK-based Stiff Records, and rerecorded it the next year for their debut album '' Beauty and the Beat'' on I.R.S. Records. "We Got the Beat" is considered a new wave classic and the Go-Go's' signature song. The song was named one of "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll". The first version of the song was released as a single on May 9, 1980, in the UK, but it was criticized for being artificially sped up. Even so, the song brought the Go-Go's underground credibility during their first UK tour, and increased their visibility in the US. The Go-Go's are an American all-female Rock music, rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1978. Gina Schock
Regina Ann Schock (born August 31, 1957) is an American musician, best known as the drummer for the rock band the Go-Go's. Schock was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in October 2021 as a member of the Go-Go's. Early life Regina Ann Schock was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 31, 1957, to June and John Schock. She was raised in the nearby working-class suburb of Dundalk. She lived in the German Hill neighborhood. She was educated in private Catholic schools, attending Sacred Heart of Mary School and Catholic High School in Dundalk. She was a bit of a troublemaker in school but did not get into serious trouble. According to her mother, Schock never took drumming lessons, but had "natural rhythm." When she was 13, she would come home from school, put on headphones and bang on the drums for hours, which was a challenge for her family to endure. Pony (dance)
"Pony Time" is a song written by Don Covay and John Berry (a member of Covay's earlier vocal group, "the Rainbows"), and originally recorded in 1960 by Covay with his group "the Goodtimers". It achieved greater success when it was recorded by Chubby Checker the following year, becoming his second US No.1 (after his 1960 single " The Twist"). Chubby Checker's recording of "Pony Time" was also a No.1 hit on the R&B charts. In Canada it reached No. 5. The "Boogety Shoe" phrase was used in Barry Mann's hit song " Who Put the Bomp (in the Bomp, Bomp, Bomp)" (1961). The lyrics reverse the Gee and Haw commands. The Specials
The Specials, also known as the Special AKA, were an English 2 tone and ska revival band formed in 1977 in Coventry. After some early changes, the first stable lineup of the group consisted of Terry Hall and Neville Staple on vocals, Jerry Dammers on keyboards, Lynval Golding and Roddy Radiation on guitars, Horace Panter on bass, John Bradbury on drums, and Dick Cuthell and Rico Rodriguez on horns. The band wore mod-style "1960s period rude boy outfits ( pork pie hats, tonic and mohair suits and loafers)". Their music combines the danceable rhythms of ska and rocksteady with the energy and attitude of punk. Ginger Canzoneri
Ginger Canzoneri is an American band manager. She was the original manager of 1980s power pop and female punk rock group The Go-Go's, starting in 1979. Canzoneri joined the band after its formation in 1978, and she pawned her jewelry and secured a loan on her car to fund the band's UK tour opening for The Specials and Madness in the summer of 1980. She helped the Go-Go's sign their first major label record deal. She was associated with the women in punk rock movement. She went on to manage other bands. Going To A Go-Go (song)
"Going to a Go-Go" is a 1965 single recorded by the Miracles for Motown's Tamla label. The Miracles' original version Smokey Robinson sings lead on "Going to a Go-Go", which he co-wrote with fellow Miracles Pete Moore, Bobby Rogers, and Marv Tarplin. Moore, Rogers, Ronnie White, and Smokey Robinson's wife Claudette Robinson provide backing vocals for the song, an up-tempo dance song inviting people from all walk of life to attend a go-go party. Smokey Robinson
William "Smokey" Robinson Jr. (born February 19, 1940) is an American R&B and soul singer, songwriter, record producer, and former record executive. He was the founder and frontman of the pioneering Motown vocal group the Miracles, for which he was also chief songwriter and producer. He led the group from its 1955 origins, when they were called The Five Chimes, until 1972, when he retired from the group to focus on his role as Motown Records vice president.
