Waterloo Creek Massacre
The Waterloo Creek massacre (also Slaughterhouse Creek massacre) refers to a series of violent clashes between mounted settlers, civilians and Indigenous peoples, Indigenous Gamilaraay people, which occurred southwest of Moree, New South Wales, Moree, New South Wales, Australia, during December 1837 and January 1838. The Waterloo Creek Massacre site is listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register, New South Wales Heritage Register as a place of significance in frontier violence leading to the murder of Gamilaraay people. The events have been subject to much dispute, due to wildly conflicting accounts by various participants and in subsequent reports and historical analyses, about the nature and number of fatalities and the lawfulness of the actions. Waterloo Creek is a U.S. Geological Survey. National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution flowline dataThe National Map accessed May 13, 2011 tributary of the Upper Iowa River, with a watershed covering . It rises as Bee Creek in Houston County, Minnesota, southwest of the city of Spring Grove, flowing generally in a southeasterly direction, crossing into Waterloo Township in Allamakee County, Iowa, where it becomes Waterloo Creek and takes a generally north–south route to its confluence with Bear Creek, just before entering the Upper Iowa River. Iowa Highway 76 parallels the stream until crossing the river. The town of Dorchester, Iowa is the only settlement alongside it. The creek is rated as one of the best trout fishing streams in Iowa. In recent years, substantial restoration work on the creek has been accomplished, removing invasive non-native planting and restoring the original meanderings of spring-fed brooks.
