Water Polo At The 1992 Summer Olympics
The men's water polo tournament at the 1992 Summer Olympics was held from 1 to 10 August 1992, in Barcelona, Spain. Reigning world champion Yugoslavia men's national water polo team, Yugoslavia had qualified for the tournament, but as it had formally dissolved in the interim, it did not participate. The successor countries did not participate for several reasons. The position of Yugoslavia was replaced by Czechoslovakia. Piscina Municipal De Montjuïc
The Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc () is a sports venue situated in the Anella Olímpica, Olympic Ring in Barcelona. The venue consists of two swimming pools: a pool for diving and a 25m outdoor pool. It hosted the Diving at the 1992 Summer Olympics, diving events and the Water polo at the 1992 Summer Olympics, water polo preliminaries for the 1992 Summer Olympics. The location of the venue on a slope of the Montjuïc hill gives a panoramic view of the city of Barcelona. The swimming pools are open to the public during the summer. History The venue, that used to consist of a single 50m pool, was opened in 1929 and refurbished to host the swimming events for the 1955 Mediterranean Games. In 1990, refurbishment works began for the 1992 Olympics: the two current pools were built and temporary grandstands were installed, boosting the capacity to 6,500 spectators. Ratko Rudić (born 7 June 1948) is a retired Croatian water polo coach and a former water polo player. , he has won 38 medals as a coach at major events, making him the most successful water polo coach in history, and second most successful team sport coach of all time. He won four gold medals, of which three consecutive, with three different national teams at the Summer Olympics, as well as three gold medals with three national teams at the World Championships, among many others. In 2007 was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame, described as "one of the best, if not the best, water polo coach to walk the deck of the pool".
