Walnut Ridge is a train station in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, United States, that is currently served by Amtrak, the national railroad passenger system. It was originally a Missouri Pacific Railroad station and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1992. History The Missouri-Pacific Railroad ended service on its crack Texas Eagle (MP train), Texas Eagle on April 30, 1971, one day before Amtrak took over passenger services. In March 1974, Amtrak's Inter-American (train), Inter-American was extended from Fort Worth (Amtrak station), Fort Worth to St. Louis (Amtrak station), St. Louis, restoring passenger service to the Missouri-Pacific Railroad's main line. Walnut Ridge is a city in and the county seat of Lawrence County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 5,098 at the United States Census's 2019 estimate. Walnut Ridge lies immediately north of Hoxie. The two towns form a contiguous urban area with approximately 8,000 residents. Williams Baptist University is in College City, a formerly separate community that merged into Walnut Ridge in 2017. History Walnut Ridge was formally established in 1875 as a result of the railroad coming through the area. There was settlement in the area known as Old Walnut Ridge not far from the current city since about 1860.
