''Wall of Eyes'' is the second studio album by the English rock band the Smile, released on 26 January 2024 through XL Recordings. It was recorded in Oxfordshire and Abbey Road Studios, London, with the producer Sam Petts-Davies. The Smile developed the songs while on tour for their first album, '' A Light for Attracting Attention'' (2022). After releasing the single " Bending Hectic" in June 2023, the Smile announced the album in November. They released singles for "Wall of Eyes" and "Friend of a Friend", with music videos directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. ''Wall of Eyes'' was named one of the year's best albums by several publications and entered the top ten of several national albums charts. The Smile began a tour of Europe in March 2024. The Smile are an English rock band comprising Thom Yorke (vocals, guitar, bass, keys), Jonny Greenwood (guitar, bass, keys) and Tom Skinner (drummer), Tom Skinner (drums). Motorik
Motorik is the 4/4 beat often used by, and heavily associated with, krautrock bands. Coined by music journalists, the term is German for "motor skill". The motorik beat was pioneered by Jaki Liebezeit, drummer with German experimental rock band Can. Klaus Dinger of Neu!, another early pioneer of motorik, later called it the "Apache beat". The motorik beat is heard in one section of Kraftwerk's "Autobahn", a song composed to convey the feeling of driving on the German highway. Math rock is a style of alternative and indie rock with roots in bands such as King Crimson and Rush.
