Walcha Road Railway Station
Walcha Road railway station is a heritage-listed railway station located on the Main Northern line in Walcha Road, Walcha Shire, New South Wales, Australia. The railway station serves the village of Walcha Road and town of Walcha, opening on 2 August 1882 when the line was extended from Kootingal to Uralla. It is also known as Walcha Road Railway Station and yard group. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. Walcha Road
Walcha Road is a rural village with a population of about 20, located west of Walcha in the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia. The railway line through here from Sydney to Uralla was completed in 1882. Walcha Road Post Office opened on 16 November 1882 and closed in 1976. Based on the Armidale train line, Walcha Road railway station served as the train stop for the Walcha district and as such carried a large volume of goods such as superphosphate, wool and livestock. During 1911 there were 8,748 bales of wool transported from here to Sydney. Livestock and goods are no longer carried and the old yards and sheds have been removed. Up until 1914, the trip to Walcha took about two hours by horses and a coach. Later a motor bus service operated along this route. The historic hotel was burnt down in November 2004 and a new hotel was opened for meals in November 2007. A post office was opened here, but has been closed for many years. Kootingal railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the town of Kootingal, opening on 9 January 1882 as Moonbi when the line was extended from West Tamworth. It was the terminus of the line until it was extended to Uralla on 2 August 1882. It was renamed Kootingal on 20 April 1914. Opposite the station lies a passing loop. Armidale railway station is a heritage-listed railway station at 240 Brown Street, Armidale, New South Wales, Australia. It was built from 1882 to 1883 by Edmund Lonsdale and Henry Sheldon Hoddard, and was opened on 3 February 1883 when the line was extended from Uralla. The Xplorer is a class of diesel multiple unit trains built by ABB Transportation. Initially entering service in October 1993, the Xplorers are mechanically identical to the Endeavour Railcars, though feature a higher level of passenger amenity. All 23 carriages were built in Dandenong, Victoria. The Xplorers currently operate under NSW TrainLink, running on the regional Main North, Main Western and Main Southern lines throughout New South Wales. The Northern Tablelands Express is a passenger train service in Australia operated by the New South Wales Government Railways and its successors since June 1941. History The ''Northern Tablelands Express'' has operated from Sydney via the Main Northern line to various destinations in the New England district. The New South Wales State Heritage Register, also known as NSW State Heritage Register, is a heritage list of places in the state of New South Wales, Australia, that are protected by New South Wales legislation, generally covered by the Heritage Act 1977 and its 2010 amendments. The register is administered by the Heritage Council of NSW via Heritage NSW, a division of the Government of New South Wales Department of Planning and Environment. Walcha, New South Wales
Walcha () is a town at the south-eastern edge of the Northern Tablelands, New South Wales, Australia. The town serves as the seat of Walcha Shire. Walcha is located by road from Sydney at the intersection of the Oxley Highway and Thunderbolts Way. The Apsley River passes through the town to tumble over the Apsley Falls before joining the Macleay River further on. Originally the river caused flooding in the town prior to a levee bank being constructed and saving the town from more floods. At the , Walcha had a population of 1,451 people.
