Waffen Grenadier Regiment Of The SS (1st Romanian)
During World War II, the ''Waffen Grenadier Regiment of the SS (1st Romanian)'' (german: Waffen-Grenadier Regiment der SS (Rumänisches Nr. 1)) was formed out of members of the Romanian 4th Infantry Division which had been refitting in German territory when Romania signed a ceasefire with the Soviet Union. The regiment also included members of the Fascist Iron Guard, which always had a close relationship with the SS. It was attached to the III (Germanic) SS Panzer Corps and fought on the River Oder front until the beginning of March 1945. It was then transferred to the eastern approaches to Berlin where it was destroyed during the Soviet Berlin offensive which was launched on 16 April 1945. Most of the unit survived and escaped westward into captivity. This is a list of divisions in the Waffen-SS. All Waffen-SS divisions were ordered in a single series of numbers as formed, regardless of type. Those with ethnic groups listed were at least nominally recruited from those groups. Many of the higher-numbered units were divisions in name only, being in reality only small battlegroups ( Kampfgruppen). As a general rule, an "SS Division" is made up of mostly Germans, or other Germanic peoples, while a "Division of the SS" is made up of mostly non-Germanic volunteers. Between 1925 and 1945, the German ''Schutzstaffel'' (SS) grew from eight members to over a quarter of a million '' Waffen-SS'' and over a million '' Allgemeine-SS'' members. Döllersheim is an abandoned village in the Austrian state of Lower Austria, located in the rural Waldviertel region about northwest of Vienna. The (, "Armed SS") was the combat branch of the Nazi Party's ''Schutzstaffel'' (SS) organisation. Its formations included men from Nazi Germany, along with volunteers and conscripts from both occupied and unoccupied lands. III (Germanic) SS Panzer Corps
The III (Germanic) SS Panzer Corps (''III. (germanisches) SS-Panzerkorps'') was a German Waffen-SS armoured corps which saw action on the Eastern Front during World War II. The ''(germanische)'' (lit. Germanic) part of its designation was granted as it was composed primarily of foreign volunteer formations. History The corps was formed in April, 1943 as a headquarters for the SS Division Wiking and SS Division Nordland. The corps was placed under the control of former Wiking commander SS-Obergruppenführer Felix Steiner. After training, the corps took part in operations against Yugoslav partisans. The corps was then sent to a quiet sector in Army Group North, now made up of the Nordland Division and the 4th SS Volunteer Panzergrenadier Brigade Netherlands.
