WHJY
WHJY (94.1 FM) is a commercial mainstream rock station in Providence, Rhode Island, owned by iHeartMedia. WHJY has been a rock station since September 4, 1981. Its broadcast center, also used by its sister stations, is on Oxford Street, just west of Interstate 95 in Providence, and its transmitter is located on Eastern Avenue in East Providence. (The station's studios are located on the northeast corner of the building, facing I-95, and are sometimes referred to by DJs as "the Ghetto Penthouse.") WHIM (defunct)
WHIM (known on-air as "WHIM Country") was a country music radio station in the Providence, Rhode Island, market. History WHIM was first heard on April 15, 1947, when a new daytimer signed on for the first time on 1110 kHz. From 1958–1966, while under ownership of C. George Taylor and Bob Engles, WHIM was a top 40 station competing with WPRO (AM), WPRO/630 and WPVD (AM), WICE/1290. The station's owners also operated WHIM-FM/99.9 licensed to Cranston, Rhode Island, which later became WLOV and went dark. A new WHIM-FM emerged on 94.1 MHz in 1966 when WHIM began broadcasting the format it would keep in one form or another for 31 years: country music. WHIM competed against fellow daytimers WSTL, WRIB/1220 in Providence and WARV (AM), WYNG/1590 in Warwick, Rhode Island, Warwick for Rhode Island's country music audience. WHJJ (920 kHz, "News Radio 920 & 104.7 FM") is a commercial radio station in Providence, Rhode Island. It carries a talk radio format and is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. Its studios and offices are on Oxford Street in Providence. WHJJ transmits 5,000 watts around the clock, from its transmitter site off Wampanoag Trail ( Rhode Island Route 114) in East Providence. A single non-directional tower is used during the day, providing at least secondary coverage to all of Rhode Island and the Massachusetts South Coast. At night, WHJJ switches to a directional antenna using a two tower array to protect other stations on 920kHz and adjacent frequencies. Robert Clark Seger ( ; born May 6, 1945) is a retired American singer, songwriter, and musician. As a locally successful Detroit-area artist, he performed and recorded with the groups Bob Seger and the Last Heard and the Bob Seger System throughout the 1960s, breaking through with his first album, '' Ramblin' Gamblin' Man'' (which contained his first national hit of the same name) in 1969. Great White is an American hard rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1977. The band is named after both the shark with the same name, and guitarist Mark Kendall's former stage nickname. In August 2008, Great White estimated they had sold around eight million records worldwide.
