WGTX (1240 kHz) is an AM broadcasting, AM radio station city of license, licensed to West Yarmouth, Massachusetts, and serving Cape Cod. It is owned by GCJH, Inc. and broadcasts a classic hits format as a simulcast of WGTX-FM (102.3) in Truro, Massachusetts, Truro. WGTX transmits at a power of 1,000 watts omnidirectional antenna, non-directional. The transmitter is on Radio Lane in West Yarmouth. Programming is also heard on 250-watt FM translator W293DW at 106.5 MHz. History WOCB first sign-on, signed on the air on October 2, 1940; the station was originally owned by the Cape Cod Broadcasting Company. It was the first radio station on Cape Cod since WJBX, which operated for several months in 1926. WOCB originally operated at 1210 kHz, but moved to 1240 in 1941 as a result of the North American Regional Broadcasting Agreement. West Yarmouth is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Yarmouth in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 6,012 at the 2010 census. Geography West Yarmouth is located in the southwest quarter of the town of Yarmouth at (41.649547, -70.246385). It is bordered to the east by South Yarmouth, to the west by Hyannis in the town of Barnstable, and to the south by Nantucket Sound. To the north is U.S. Route 6, the Mid-Cape Highway, beyond which is the CDP of Yarmouth Port. According to the United States Census Bureau, the West Yarmouth CDP has a total area of , of which is land and (26.54%) is water. It is related to middle of the road (MOR) music and encompasses instrumental recordings of standards, hit songs, non- rock vocals and instrumental covers of selected popular rock songs. WCAI (90.1 FM) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, WNAN (91.1 FM) in Nantucket, and WZAI (94.3 FM) in Brewster, are NPR member radio stations serving the Cape Cod and Islands area of southeast Massachusetts. They broadcast primarily news and information programming and are owned by the WGBH Educational Foundation in Boston. WCAI's studios are located at the Captain Davis House at 3 Water Street in Woods Hole (a census-designated place in Falmouth) and its transmission facilities are located in Tisbury, Massachusetts. In October 2024, WGBH announced it was selling the Davis House as part of ongoing budget cuts. Brewster is a New England town, town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States, Barnstable County being coextensive with Cape Cod. The population of Brewster was 10,318 at the 2020 census.
