''WCW WorldWide'' is an American syndicated television show that was produced by World Championship Wrestling (WCW) that aired from October 8, 1975, to March 31, 2001. At the time of its cancellation, ''WorldWide'' was the longest-running, uninterrupted weekly syndicated show of any kind on the air in the United States. Jim Crockett Promotions, at times branded as Eastern States Championship Wrestling and Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling, is a Family business, family-owned professional wrestling promotion headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. Founded in 1931, the promotion emerged as a cornerstone of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). By the 1980s, Jim Crockett Promotions was, along with the WWE, World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE), one of the two largest promotions in the United States. The Crockett family sold a majority interest in the promotion to Turner Broadcasting System (which was acquired by Time Warner in 1996, later became WarnerMedia from 2018–2022, now known as Warner Bros. Discovery), resulting in the creation of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1988. Tom Miller (broadcaster)
Thomas Edward Miller (April 1, 1940 – March 17, 1993) was an American radio personality and emcee in Greensboro, North Carolina. Miller was born on April 1, 1940. His father was a Baptist preacher. He got his start in the Greensboro market at WKEW, WGBG, where he was a disc jockey and program director. In 1973, he moved to WBT (AM), WBT in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he hosted the ''Truckin' Tom Show''. In 1975, he won ''Billboard (magazine), Billboards Country Disc Jockey of the Year Award. He returned to Greensboro, where he once again worked for WGBG and was master of ceremonies for country music and professional wrestling events at the Greensboro Coliseum. During the 1980s, he was a deejay and station manager for WAKG in Danville, Virginia. Miller died on March 17, 1993, at his home in Monroe, North Carolina. David Finley Crockett is an American former professional wrestling announcer and executive. Career Crockett was usually paired in announcing duties with Tony Schiavone, with Crockett providing color commentary and Schiavone providing play-by-play announcing. From 1985 to 1988, Crockett and Schiavone were the announcing team for ''NWA World Championship Wrestling''. David Crockett is remembered for being clotheslined by Nikita Koloff on ''World Wide Wrestling'' in 1985 in Asheville, North Carolina. International Wrestling Association (1970s)
The International Wrestling Association (IWA) was a professional wrestling promotion based in Cleveland, Ohio, in the 1970s. It was founded by Eddie Einhorn and Pedro Martinez in 1975. The company descended from the National Wrestling Federation. It was originally intended to be the first national wrestling promotion, but stayed primarily in the Mid-Atlantic region. Einhorn offered his wrestlers more money and benefits than competing promotions, helping to lure big names such as Mil Mascaras (the company's heavyweight champion). Einhorn left the promotion later that year, and Johnny Powers took over as booker. The company scaled down and stayed in Virginia and North Carolina. Eddie Einhorn (January 3, 1936 – February 24, 2016) was minority owner and vice chairman of the Chicago White Sox. Biography Einhorn grew up in a Jewish family in Paterson, New Jersey, the son of Mae (née Lippman) and Harold B. Einhorn and resided in Alpine, New Jersey. Einhorn produced the nationally syndicated radio broadcast of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship in 1958. In 1960, he founded the TVS Television Network to telecast college basketball games to regional networks at a time when the sport was of no interest to the national networks. The first broadcast was a semi-final game between Bradley University vs. St. Bonaventure University in the 1960 National Invitation Tournament from Madison Square Garden. The Westinghouse Broadcasting Company, also known as Group W, was the broadcasting division of Westinghouse Electric Corporation. It owned several radio and television stations across the United States and distributed television shows for syndication. Johnny Weaver
Kenneth Eugene Weaver (November 17, 1935 – February 15, 2008) was an American professional wrestler and wrestling commentator in the National Wrestling Alliance, better known by his ring name, Johnny Weaver. Career 1960s Weaver's career spanned four decades in many different territories in the NWA. He held championships across the southeast United States, the first of which was the Mid-Atlantic (Carolinas, Virginia) version of the NWA Southern Tag Team Championship, which he won with “Cowboy” Bob Ellis on December 2, 1963. Richard Eugene Landrum (March 31, 1946 – August 14, 2023) was an American radio and television broadcaster, who was best known for hosting the syndicated program ''World Wide Wrestling'' from late 1978 to early 1982. He started his broadcasting career at the age of 16, while attending Douglas S. Freeman High School in western Henrico County (a Richmond suburb).
