Charles Vyner Brooke
Vyner, Rajah of Sarawak, GCMG, full name Charles Vyner de Windt Brooke (26 September 1874 – 9 May 1963) was the third and last White Rajah of the Raj of Sarawak. Early life The son of Charles Brooke and his wife Margaret de Windt ( Ranee Margaret of Sarawak), Vyner was born in London and spent his youth there, being educated at Clevedon, Winchester College, and Magdalene College, Cambridge. He then entered the Sarawak public service. Vyner served as '' aide-de-camp'' to his father 1897–1898, district officer of Simanggang 1898–1901, Resident of Mukah and Oya, 1902–1903, Resident of the Third Division 1903–1904, President of the Law Courts 1904–1911, vice-president of the Supreme and General Councils 1904–1911. In his military career, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) on 12 May 1911, but resigned from the (County of London) Battalion (Artist's Rifles) on 21 May 1913. Vyner Baronets
The Vyner Baronetcy, of London, was a title in the Baronetage of England. It was created on 18 June 1661 for Thomas Vyner, Lord Mayor of London in 1653. The title became extinct upon the early death of the third Baronet in 1683. The third son, Sir Robert Vyner, 1st Baronet (a separate baronetcy from his uncle's) (1631–88) was also Lord Mayor of London. The Vyners were a family of Warwickshire gentry. William Vyner (1570–1639), elder brother of the first Baronet, had four sons. The elder, Samuel (1627–59), was the grandfather of Robert Vyner (1765–1823), barrister, whose elder daughter Jane married Sir Theophilus Biddulph, 6th baronet. A younger daughter of Robert's, Delicia, married the future Field Marshal Leonhard Graf von Blumenthal, and was thus one of a clique of English wives (including Princess Victoria) who influenced the Prussian military to adopt liberal political views. Vyner Street
Vyner Street is a cobblestone canal-side walkway in Bethnal Green in the East End of London, England. It was once called John Street in the 1830s. The street is known for its street art and for its galleries. History The warehouse buildings rose from the Regents Canal without a towpath to interrupt development, giving direct access to the canal. On Wadeson Street, a row of Victorian workshops were built in what was a historically Jewish area. This became very overcrowded with 572 inhabitants living in 125 houses by the 1930s. The stretch was then redeveloped with warehouses and factories by 1937. Vyner Street had been transformed into a hub of the East London art scene by 2005. The Wilkinson Gallery opened on Cambridge Heath Road in 1998 and moved into Vyner Street in 2007. The gallery became known as one of the first in London to have exhibitions by major female artists such as Joan Jonas, Dara Birnbaum, and Laurie Simmons.
