Vurun Kahpeye (1964 Film)
''Vurun Kahpeye'' is a 1973 Turkish drama film, directed by Halit Refiğ and starring Hale Soygazi, Tugay Toksöz, and Tanju Gürsu. ''Vurun Kahpeye'' marks the directorial debut of Lütfi Ömer Akad, who also worked on the initial editing of the film before Özen Sermet revised it. The idea for the adaptation originated with Sezer Sezin, and the screenplay was co-written by Lütfi Ömer Akad and Selahattin Küçük. Halide Edib Adıvar approved the project after reviewing the treatment prepared by the writers. Hürrem Erman, the producer, offered Akad the directorial role. Lütfi Ömer Akad
Lütfi Ömer Akad (2 September 1916 – 19 November 2011) was a Turkish film director, screenwriter, and academic, who directed movies from 1948 to 1990. In 1949, he debuted as a film director with ''Vurun Kahpeye'' ("Strike the Whore") an adaptation of Halide Edib Adıvar's book of the same title. He became one of the pioneers of the period in the "Director Generation". His 1970s trilogy comprising ''The Bride'', ''The Wedding'' and ''The Sacrifice'', is considered his masterpiece. Afterwards, he withdrew from movie making instead directing adaptations for TV. Lütfi Ömer Akad was born on September 2, 1916. Following his secondary education at French Jeanne d'Arc School and Galatasaray High School, he studied finance at Istanbul Economy and Commerce Higher School. Tugay Toksöz
Tugay is a form of riparian forest or woodland associated with fluvial and floodplain areas in arid climates. These wetlands are subject to periodic inundation, and largely dependent on floods and groundwater rather than directly from rainfall. Tugay habitats occur in semi-arid and desert climates in Central Asia. Because Tugay habitat is usually linear, following the courses of rivers in arid landscapes, Tugay communities often function as wildlife corridors. They have disappeared or become fragmented over much of their former range. Distribution The centre of the range of Tugay vegetation is the Tarim Basin in north-western China, where the Tarim Huyanglin nature reserve in the middle reaches of the Tarim River holds the largest areas of intact Tugay forests, with a 1993 estimate of about 61% of the total. Tanju Gürsu (30 October 1936 – 7 June 2016) was a Turkish actor, director, and screenwriter who was a major star of Turkish cinema in the 1960s and 1970s. He appeared in films such as ''Haremde Dört Kadın'' (1965) and '' Üç Korkusuz Arkadaş'' (1966) under director Halit Refiğ. Halide Edip Adıvar ( , sometimes spelled Halidé Edib in English; 11 June 1884 – 9 January 1964) was a Turkish people, Turkish novelist, teacher, and a nationalist and Feminism, feminist intellectual. She was best known for her novels criticizing the low social status of Turkish women and what she saw from her observation as the lack of interest of most women in changing their situation. Halit Refiğ (5 March 1934 – 11 October 2009) was a Turkish film director, film producer, screenwriter and writer. He made around sixty films, including feature films, documentaries and TV serials. He is considered to be the pioneer of the National Cinema movement and the initiator of the production of TV serials in Turkey. Biography Halit Refiğ graduated from Şişli Terakki High School in 1951 and studied engineering at Robert College in Istanbul. Refiğ directed his first films in 8mm while he served as a military reserve officer in Korea, Japan and Ceylon. He wrote articles on cinema at newspapers in 1956 and published the ''Sinema Dergisi'' magazine together with Nijat Özön.
