Vox Populi (art Gallery)
Vox Populi is a nonprofit art gallery and collective in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1988, it presents experimental art and ideas via monthly shows, performances, and gallery talks. Located on North 11th Street, it is the longest running artist collective in the city. Among the artists whose work the space has hosted include Kembra Pfahler, Guy Ben-Ari, Virgil Marti and Brainstormers member Maria Dumlao. Musical performers at their old location on Cherry Street included Gang Gang Dance, Comets on Fire, Growing, Wolf Eyes and many others. Astria Suparak
Astria Suparak is an American artist and curator from Los Angeles, California. Suparak has curated events and exhibitions for Eyebeam, The Kitchen, PS1, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Museo Tamayo (Mexico City), Anthology Film Archives, Liverpool Biennial and Yale University and a number of alternative venues. Suparak was director of the Warehouse Gallery (Syracuse University) from 2006-2007 and the Pratt Film Series (Pratt Institute) from 1998-2000. Riot grrrl is an underground feminist punk movement that began during the early 1990s within the United States in Olympia, Washington and the greater Pacific Northwest and has expanded to at least 26 other countries. Riot grrrl is a subcultural movement that combines feminism, punk music, and politics. It is often associated with third-wave feminism, which is sometimes seen as having grown out of the riot grrrl movement and has recently been seen in fourth-wave feminist punk music that rose in the 2010s. Miguel Gutierrez (choreographer)
Miguel Gutierrez (born 1971) is an American choreographer, composer, performer, singer, writer, educator and advocate based in New York City. His multidisciplinary performances "layer quotidian business and seemingly off-the-cuff remarks with strikingly choreographed sequences and lyrical text" and have been presented in more than 60 cities around the world. Angela Washko is an American new media artist and facilitator based in New York. She is currently Associate Professor of Art at Carnegie Mellon University. Washko mobilizes communities and creates new forums for discussions of feminism where they do not exist. Washko is the founder of the Council on Gender Sensitivity and Behavioral Awareness in World of Warcraft to bring attention to and protest the sexist language from players in the game.
