The Voice of Roma is an advocacy and human rights group, founded in 1996, for Roma people based in America, with projects across the US and Europe, most notably in Kosovo. It was founded by Sani Rifati in 1996, and incorporated as a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization in Sebastopol, California in 1999. Publishing VOR have published a number of pamphlets by activist Paul Polansky. Sebastopol, California
Sebastopol ( ) is a city in Sonoma County, California, with a recorded population of 7,521, per the 2020 United States census, 2020 U.S. Census. Paul Polansky
Paul Polansky (February 17, 1942 – March 26, 2021) was an American writer and Romani activist. Paul Polansky held a degree in journalism, history and rhetoric from Marquette University. In the early 1990s, he founded the Czech Historical Research Center in the United States and participated in several American and European scientific conferences on human rights in Eastern Europe. In the 1990s, he discovered 40,000 documents in the Czech archives on the Gypsy extermination camp in Lety, run by the Czechs during World War II. After making this discovery, he moved to the Czech Republic to continue his research. He also began organizing conferences devoted to them at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Sani Rifati
Sani Rifati is a human rights activist and the President of Voice of Roma. A native Roma himself, he was born in Pristina, Kosovo, Yugoslavia, lived and worked in California, United States. He currently resides in Berlin, Germany. Rifati began dancing as a youth in Pristina and was a part of the 'Kheljen Romalen!' Folklore Dance Ensemble. During the 1980s, he was a drummer for a professional band. He has worked as Romani dance instructor and choreographer. Since 2012 he has worked as a Roma-dance teacher at the refugee dance group Heimatsterne of the Arbeitsgruppe Flucht+Menschenrechte in Berlin.
