Village (board Game)
Village is a historical-themed eurogame, euro-style board game with a focus on Resource management (gaming), resource management for 2-4 players, released in 2011. It is designed by Inka Brand and Markus Brand. The game won the 2012 Deutscher Spiele Preis and Kennerspiel des Jahres awards. Gameplay In ''Village'', players control the fate of a family and oversee their rise to prominence in their local village. Players begin the game with 4 family members and must manage resources, time, and the actions of other players to score the most ‘prestige points’ to win the game. The concept of death plays a major part in ''Village'', with time being a spendable commodity. After spending a certain amount of time, players must choose a family member to pass away, beginning with their ‘oldest’ family members. Eurogame
A Eurogame, also called a German-style board game, German game, or Euro-style game (generally just referred to as board games in Europe), is a class of tabletop games that generally feature indirect player interaction, lack player elimination, and provide multiple ways to score points. Eurogames are sometimes contrasted with American-style board games, which generally involve more luck, conflict, and drama. They are usually less abstract than chess or Go, but more abstract than wargames. __NOTOC__ The Deutscher Spielepreis (, ''German Game Prize'') (DSP) is an important award for boardgames. It was started in 1990 by the German magazine ''Die Pöppel-Revue'', which collects votes from the industry's stores, magazines, professionals and game clubs. The results are announced every October at the ''Spiel'' game fair in Essen, Germany. The Essen Feather is awarded at the same ceremony. In contrast to the Spiel des Jahres, which tends to be awarded to family games, the DSP is awarded for "gamers' games" with particularly good or innovative gameplay. Kennerspiel Des Jahres
The Spiel des Jahres (, 'Game of the Year') is an award for board and card games, created in 1978 with the purpose of rewarding family-friendly game design, and promoting excellent games in the German market. It is thought that the existence and popularity of the award was one of the major drivers of the quality of games coming out of Germany, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s. A ''Spiel des Jahres'' nomination can increase the typical sales of a game from 500–3,000 copies to around 10,000, and the winner can usually expect to sell as many as 500,000 copies. Award criteria The award is given by a jury of German-speaking board game critics from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, who review games released in Germany in the preceding twelve months.
