Vila Do Príncipe
Serro is a Brazilian municipality located in the state of Minas Gerais. The city belongs to the metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte and to the microregion of Conceição do Mato Dentro. As of 2020, the estimated population was 20,940. In colonial times the city was known by the name ''Vila do Príncipe'' ('). In this city were born Emerico Lobo de Mesquita, one of the most prominent composers of the Classicism movement in Brazil, and Gomes Carneiro, a general who fought on the Paraguayan War and on the Federalist Revolution. Serro is well known for its traditional cheese, cultural richness, colonial influence and unique environment. The municipality contains part of the Pico do Itambé State Park, created in 1998. Pico Do Itambé State Park
The Pico do Itambé State Park () is a state park in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It protects one of the higher peaks in the state. Location The Pico do Itambé State Park is divided between the municipalities of Santo Antônio do Itambé, Serro and Serra Azul de Minas in Minas Gerais. It has an area of . It is from Belo Horizonte. Paraguayan War
The Paraguayan War (, , ), also known as the War of the Triple Alliance (, , ), was a South American war that lasted from 1864 to 1870. It was fought between Paraguay and the Triple Alliance of Argentina, the Empire of Brazil, and Uruguay. It was the deadliest and bloodiest inter-state war in Latin American history. Antônio Ernesto Gomes Carneiro (November 28, 1846 – February 9, 1894) was a Brazilian army officer and veteran of the Paraguayan War. Antônio Ernesto Gomes Carneiro fought on the side of the Republican government in the Federalist Revolution, where he was killed in action, during the Siege of Lapa. Carneiro died unaware of his promotion to Brigade General, which was awarded the day prior to his death, for his actions in battle. Emerico Lobo De Mesquita
José Joaquim Emerico Lobo de Mesquita (12 October 1746 – April 1805) was a Brazilian composer, music teacher, conductor and organist. Life Emerico was born at Vila do Príncipe (now Serro), in Minas Gerais State, Brazil. His parents José Lobo de Mesquita and Joaquina Emerenciana gave him a liberal education. He received his first music lessons (organ and music theory) from Father Manuel da Costa Dantas, who was organist and choirmaster at the church ''Nossa Senhora da Conceição'' in Serro. Soon after 1776 he went to Arraial do Tijuco (now Diamantina) to become organist and conductor at the cathedral ''Santo Antônio'' of Diamantina.
