Vijayakanth
Vijayaraj Alagarswami (25 August 1952 – 28 December 2023), known by his stage name Vijayakanth, was an Indian actor, filmmaker, philanthropist and politician. He worked in Tamil cinema in a career spanning four decades. He ventured into politics in the later part of his career and founded his own party Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam. Vijayakanth acted in Vijayakanth filmography, over 150 films in his career. ''Alai Osai'' () is a 1985 Indian Tamil-language film directed by Sirumugai Ravi in his debut. The film stars Vijayakanth and Nalini. It was released on 14 January 1985. Plot Cast Production ''Alai Osai'' marked the directorial debut of Sirumugai Ravi who earlier assisted R. Sundarrajan. Soundtrack The soundtrack was composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The song "Poradada" became an anthem for Dalits, and was reused in two Tamil films directed by Mari Selvaraj: ''Pariyerum Perumal'' (2018) and '' Karnan'' (2021). Release and reception ''Alai Osai'' was given an ''A'' (restricted to adults) certificate by the censor board without any cuts, and released on 14 January 1985. ''Kudumbam'' () is a 1984 Indian Tamil-language drama film, directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar. The film stars Vijayakanth, Devisri, Jaishankar and Sujatha. It was released on 22 November 1984. Plot Vijay falls in love with Devi. With the empowerment of Shankar and her sister Vijaya, the marriage is granted. While Vijay cannot find time with Devi for entertainment. She gives birth to a baby but Devi suddenly dies. An argument takes place in the family and he decides to divide his entourage by sharing the house. Vijay gets his daughter, raised by his sister but runs away with Raja, son of Vijaya. Both children are in the street but are and recovered, protected by Latha. ''Naalai Unathu Naal'' () is a 1984 Indian Tamil-language mystery thriller film, written and directed by A. Jagannathan. The film stars Vijayakanth, Nalini and Jaishankar. It is a remake of the Hindi film ''Gumnaam'' (1965), itself heavily inspired by Agatha Christie's novel ''And Then There Were None'' (1939). ''Veetuku Oru Kannagi'' () is a 1984 Indian Tamil-language film, directed and produced by S. A. Chandrasekhar. The film stars Vijayakanth, Sujatha, Nalini and Sangili Murugan. It was released on 1 July 1984. Plot Suja, a noted writer, is married to inspector Chandrasekar and has a young daughter. Her sister, Ilavarasi, is married to the abusive Ravi. Vijay is a journalist for a magazine focused on social justice issues and occasionally works with Suja. He meets the orphaned Maadhavi and two fall in love. Ravi kills Ilavarasi and Chandrasekar arrests him. Ravi's business partner Meenakshisundaram and lawyer Mahendran conspire to twist the evidence.
