Victoria Adams (comics)
The Shield is the name of several superheroes created by MLJ (now known as Archie Comics). Appearing months before Captain America, the Shield has the distinction of being the first superhero with a costume based upon United States patriotic iconography. The character appeared in ''Pep Comics'' from issue #1 (January 1940) to #65 (January 1948). The name was used by MLJ/Archie for four characters. DC Comics' Impact line, which licensed the Archie properties, also used the name for several characters. In 2010, DC announced plans to integrate the Shield and other MLJ characters into the DC Universe, but the rights to the characters reverted to Archie Comics in 2011. Victoria Jackson Gray Adams (November 5, 1926 – August 12, 2006) was an American civil rights activist from Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was one of the founding members of the influential Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. Early life and education Born as Victoria Almeter Jackson (later known as Victoria Gray Adams) on November 5, 1926 in a black community called Palmer's Crossing, which is now a part of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Mack and Annie Mae Jackson. Her mother died when she was three years old, and she was then raised by her grandparents. Her grandparents were not reliant upon local white people, and ran their own farm. Thus, Adams grew up with a strong sense of independence. In 1945, she graduated from Depriest Consolidated School. Victoria Elizabeth "Vicki" Chalmers (née Adams) (born 16 November 1989) is a Scottish former curler who was the long time second for Eve Muirhead. Representing Scotland, they won the 2013 World Championships and the European Championships in 2011 and 2017. Representing Great Britain, they are the 2014 Olympic bronze medallists and finished fourth at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Career Chalmers was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and lives in Stranraer and Stirling. She has been a long-time member of the Muirhead rink, dating back to her junior career. With Muirhead, she won three gold medals at the World Junior Curling Championships, winning in 2008, 2009 and 2011.
