North Sumatra
North Sumatra ( id, Sumatra Utara) is a province of Indonesia located on the northern part of the island of Sumatra. Its capital and largest city is Medan. North Sumatra is Indonesia's fourth most populous province after West Java, East Java and Central Java, and also the most populous in the island of Sumatra. It covers an area of 72,981 km2. According to the 2020 census, the province's population in that year was 14,799,361. The mid-2021 official estimate is 14,936,148. North Sumatra is a multi-ethnic province. The Malay people are regarded as the natives of the east coast of the province, while the west coast of the province is mainly inhabited by the Batak (''Pakpak'', ''Angkola'' and ''Mandailing'' groups). Lundu Panjaitan, S.H., M.A. (born 9 April 1941) was a Batak politician and bureaucrat. He began his career in bureaucracy as the assistant for administrative affairs in the office of the Governor of North Sumatra, and became the Regent of Central Tapanuli in 1980. Since then, he was appointed to several high positions in North Sumatra, such as the Head of the Tourism Bureau of North Sumatra, Regent of North Tapanuli, Chairman of the Provincial Investment Coordinating Board of North Sumatra, and the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra. He contested in the 2004 election as the candidate for the Regional Representative Council, but lost the election. Although he lost the election, he was called to replace the seat of Raja Inal Siregar, who died after a plane crash. Nurhajizah Marpaung
Nurhajizah Marpaung (born 7 August 1956) is an Indonesian retired military officer and politician who became the Vice Governor of North Sumatra from 2017 until 2018. Her last position in the military was as the General Counsel of the Ministry of Defense. She unsuccessfully ran for Regent of Asahan in 2015 and 2020. Early life Nurhajizah was born on 7 August 1956 in Bandar Pulau, Asahan, as the daughter of Jahya Marpaung. She attended elementary school in Aek Song-Songan from 1962 until 1968, junior high school in Pulau Raja from 1968 until 1971, and high school in Kisaran from 1971 until 1974. She then continued her university education at the University of North Sumatra. During her time in the university, she joined the Muslim Students' Association. Gatot Pujo Nugroho (born 11 June 1962) is a former Indonesian politician who was the Governor of North Sumatra from 2013 to 2015. He was arrested and convicted by the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission for involving bribes to members of the provincial legislature and misuse of social assistance and grant funds. He was a member of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and had previously served as the Deputy Governor and Acting Governor of North Sumatra.
