Vic Harris (snooker Player)
Vic Harris (16 August 1945 – 10 March 2015) was an English snooker player who was born in Westcliffe-on-Sea, Essex, and turned professional in 1981. He identified Steve Davis as a future world champion at the age of 12, and was the first to spot the talent of Tony Drago when Drago won the Maltese amateur title in 1984. Harris competed in the professional UK Championship in 1981, 1982, and 1987. He won the English Amateur Championship in 1981. The Vic Harris Snooker League in Essex is named after him. Harris was interviewed by the BBC during the 2013 World Snooker Championship. He said he had his right ear removed due to cancer, but continued to play regularly in Essex. Harris talked about his role in helping to develop the games of Steve Davis and Stuart Bingham. Death and tributes Harris died on 10 March 2015, aged 69, following a long battle with cancer. Westcliffe-on-Sea
Westcliff-on-Sea (previously known as Milton, often abbreviated to Westcliff, and in the past spelt as Westcliffe-on-Sea) is a suburb of the city of Southend-on-Sea, located within the ceremonial county of Essex, England. It is on the north shore of the lower Thames Estuary, about 37 miles (55 km) east of London. World Professional Billiards And Snooker Association
The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) is the governing body of professional snooker and English billiards. It is headquartered in Bristol, England. Founded as the Professional Billiard Players Association (PBPA) in 1946, with Joe Davis as chairman, it was revived in 1968 after some years of inactivity and renamed the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association in 1970. Its current chairman is Jason Ferguson. The WPBSA devises and publishes the official rules of the two sports. Barry Pinches
Barry Pinches (born 13 July 1970 in Catton, Norwich) is an English former professional snooker player, recognisable for his bright and flamboyant waistcoats, which usually feature the yellow and green colours of Norwich City F.C. He is a former top 32 player and ranking-event quarter-finalist. He has compiled over 100 century breaks in his career. He has also made one maximum break. Career Pinches was born on 13 July 1970. He won the English Amateur Championship in 1988, enabling him to turn professional in 1989. He was runner-up to James Wattana at the 1988 World Amateur Championship. After a largely unsuccessful start to his career, he hit good form for a while in the 2000s. Jason Ferguson (snooker Player)
Jason Elliott Ferguson (born 31 May 1969) is an English former professional snooker player and current chairman of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. He reached the World Snooker Championship on three occasions, and was for four seasons ranked in the world's top 32 players, reaching a peak position of #28. In 1998 Ferguson was elected to the board of the WPBSA, and became chairman of the organisation in 2001. After retiring as a professional player and leaving his position on the WPBSA, he served as the mayor of Ollerton and Boughton between 2009 and 2010. In July 2010 Ferguson was re-elected as chairman of the WPBSA, a position he has held since. In 2022, it was confirmed that Ferguson would continue serving as chairman for at least four more years. Barry Hearn
Barry Maurice William Hearn (born 19 June 1948) is an English sports promoter who is founder and president of Matchroom Sport. Through Matchroom, Hearn is also involved in many sports including boxing, snooker, darts, pool, tenpin bowling, golf, table tennis and fishing. Until April 2021 Hearn was the chairman of the Professional Darts Corporation and until July 2010, chairman of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. Stuart Bingham
Stuart Bingham (born 21 May 1976) is an English professional snooker player who is a former World Champion and Masters winner. Bingham won the 1996 World Amateur Championship but enjoyed little sustained success in the early part of his professional career. His form improved in his mid-thirties: at age 35, he won his first ranking title at the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open, which helped him enter the top 16 in the rankings for the first time. Since then he has established himself as one of the best snooker players of his generation. At 38, Bingham won the 2015 World Championship, defeating Shaun Murphy 18–15 in the final.
