Venezuelan Pavilion
The Venezuelan pavilion houses Venezuela's national pavilion, national representation during the Venice Biennale arts festivals. It is located in the Giardini della Biennale. Background Organization and building The Biennale began in 1895. When it resumed after a break caused by World War II, Venezuela was invited to participate. The government of Marcos Pérez Jiménez agreed to fund a national pavilion, the first for a Latin American country. Designed by the Italian architect Carlo Scarpa, it was built between 1953 and 1956. Jesús Rafael Soto
Jesús Rafael Soto (June 5, 1923 – January 17, 2005) was a Venezuelan op and kinetic artist, a sculptor and a painter. His works can be found in the collections of the main museums of the world, including Tate (London), Museum Ludwig (Germany), Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna (Roma) and MoMA (New York). One of the main museums of art in Venezuela, in his home town, has his name in tribute to him. Early life Jesús Rafael Soto was born in Ciudad Bolívar in Venezuela. The eldest of four children born to Emma Soto and Luis Garcia Parra, a violin player. ''frieze'' is a contemporary art magazine, published eight times a year from London. History ''frieze'' was founded in 1991 by Frieze Art Fair founders Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover with artist Tom Gidley. A Damien Hirst butterfly painting was featured in the first ''frieze'' issue. Antonio Briceño (born 5 December 1966) is a Venezuelan photographer and activist for environmental issues, ethnic minorities, and human rights. He has a graduate degree in biology from the Central University of Venezuela and a master's degree in Digital Arts from the Pompeu Fabra University. Luisa Richter (June 30, 1928 - October 29, 2015) born Louise Kaelble, was a Venezuelan-based graphic artist and professor originally from Germany. She was born in Besigheim, Germany and died in Caracas, Venezuela. Her art was heavily influenced by post-war movements and Bauhaus. Oswaldo Vigas (August 4, 1926 – April 22, 2014) was a Venezuelan artist, best known as a self-taught painter and muralist. His work includes painting, sculptures, prints, drawings, ceramics and tapestries. His artwork was created in France and Venezuela.
