Veal Veng District
Veal Veng (or Veal Veaeng), , is a district in Pursat Province, Cambodia. The district capital is Pramoey town located by road from National Highway Number 5. Characteristics Veal Veang shares a border with Battambang Province to the north, Thailand to the west, Koh Kong Province to the south and the Pursat districts of Phnum Kravanh and Bakan to the east. The northern end of the Cardamom Mountains cover the eastern edge of Veal Veang to the Thai border. According to the 1998 Census, Veal Veang district is made up of 5 communes and 20 villages. However, the population of the district was not enumerated in the census due to security concerns. From 1979 until the end of the 1990s, Veal Veang was one of the last remaining strongholds of the Khmer Rouge. The legacy of the Cambodian civil war and over 30 years of Khmer Rouge occupation has left many parts of the district heavily contaminated with landmines. Administrative divisions of the Kingdom of Cambodia have several levels. Cambodia is divided into 24 provinces (''khaet''; ) and the special administrative unit and capital of Phnom Penh. Though a different administrative unit, Phnom Penh is at provincial level, so ''de facto'' Cambodia has 25 provinces and municipalities. Cambodia is divided into 25 provinces (, ). The capital Phnom Penh is not a province but an "autonomous municipality" (, ; lit. 'capital'), equivalent to a province governmentally and administered at the same level as the other 24 provinces. Phnom Penh has both the highest population and the highest population density of all provinces, but is the second smallest in land area. National Highway 5 (Cambodia)
National Highway 5 or National Road No.5 (10005) is one of the national highways of Cambodia. With a length of , it connects the capital of Phnom Penh with Thailand. NH5 leaves Phnom Penh in a north to northwest direction, it first borders the Tonle Sap, three bridges the Chroy Changvar, the Prek Kdam and the Prek Pnov link the Est of the country. Then it moves away from the river/lake because the land there is flooded part of the year and it exits Kandal Province and traverses Kampong Chhnang Province from the junction with Road 51, north to Kampong Chhnang City, then northwest to Baribour District where it crosses into Pursat Province. From there, it skirts the Tonle Sap lake and continues west to Pursat town, the provincial capital. Battambang Province
Battambang (, , ) is a province of Cambodia in the far northwest of the country. Bordering provinces are Banteay Meanchey to the north, Pursat to the east and south, Siem Reap to the northeast, and Pailin to the west. The northern and southern extremes of the province's western boundaries form part of the international border with Thailand. In addition, Tonlé Sap forms part of the northeastern boundary between Siem Reap and Pursat. Its capital and largest city is Battambang. It is the fifth most populous province in Cambodia. Koh Kong Province
Koh Kong (, , ) is a province (''khaet'') of Cambodia. Its capital is Khemarak Phoumin (Koh Kong). Phnum Kravanh
Phnum Kravanh district () is a district in Pursat province, Cambodia. In English the name translates to the Cardamom Mountains. Location Phnum Kravanh shares a border with Veal Veang district to the west and Koh Kong, Kampong Speu and Kampong Chhnang provinces to the south. Bakan and Sampov Meas districts are to the north and Krakor district is on the north eastern boundary. Previously Phnum Kravanh was much larger and stretched to the Thai border. However, in 1997 the western part of the district was taken to form the new district of Veal Veang. Bakan District
Bakan () is a district in Pursat province, Cambodia. The district capital is at Trapeang Chong located on National Highway 5 (Cambodia), National Highway 5 around 15 kilometres north of the provincial capital at Pursat town. According to the 1998 Census, Bakan is made up of 10 communes and 156 villages. The population of the district was 121,229 persons in 22,494 households at the time of the census. Cardamom Mountains
The Cardamom Mountains (, ; , ), or the Krâvanh Mountains, is a mountain range in the southwest part of Cambodia and Eastern Thailand. The majority of the range is within Cambodia.
