Vattapara Hairpin Turn also known as (Vattapara accident zone) is a road and place along the Indian National Highway 66 near Valanchery, Malappuram District, Kerala, India, that is known for a high number of accidents. Over a five-year period there were 300 accidents, 200 injuries, and 30 deaths. History Vattapara Hairpin Turn is located at a distance of about 4 km from Valanchery in Malappuram district, on the National Highway formerly known as NH 17 and now NH 66. The 'Vattapara bend' is an 'infamous' bend in Vattapara between Puthanathani and Valanchery. The number of vehicles that have flipped on the turn is not tracked. There have been more than 300 road accidents in the last five years. More than 30 deaths, more than 200 injured. Valanchery
Valanchery is a major town and one of the 12 municipalities in Malappuram district, Kerala, India. It is one of the four municipalities in Tirur Taluk, besides Tirur, Kottakkal, and Tanur. Tirunavaya, also spelled as Thirunavaya, is a town in Malappuram, Kerala. Situated on the northern bank of Bharatappuzha (River Ponnani/Nila or Perar), it is one of major Hindu pilgrimage centres in Kerala. Traffic Collisions In India
Traffic collisions in India are a major source of deaths, injuries and property damage every year. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2021 report states that there were 155,622 fatalities, highest since 2014, out of which 69,240 deaths were due to two-wheelers. A study by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, U.S. shows that the use of seat belts significantly reduces the risks and injuries from road accidents, and yet there is no enforcement on use of seat belts in cars. Kuttippuram is a town and a block headquarters, which is situated in the Tirur Taluk, Malappuram district of Kerala state, India. The town is located 34 kilometres south-west of Malappuram. National Highway 66, commonly referred to as NH 66 (erstwhile NH-17 and a part of NH-47), is a mostly 4 lane long busy National Highway that runs roughly north–south along the western coast of India, parallel to the Western Ghats. It connects Panvel (a city south of Mumbai) to Cape Comorin (Kanyakumari), passing through the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
